Hi guys,

I just bought a 2005 fx35, its a US vehicle. I wonder how do I tell if its a AWD model or a RWD?

The dealer been saying its a AWD but i couldnt find any proof from the documents and the user menu.

I saw some post that if its AWD, the AWD light will show up for a few secs when u start the car. And theres one way that we can check from the VIN?

My Vin is like JNRASxxWxxxxxxxx. And i dunno how to check on the front differential.

Please help, I wanted to know if my fx35 is AWD. Thanks

The AWD and RWD have different oil filter locations. I think the RWD are mounting on the left/passenger side, while the AWD faces to the front. The FX45 is on the right/driver side of the engine.

I can't remember the exact location, maybe someone with an RWD can confirm their filter location. I have to look around to find that info I read a long time ago about it. I just watched some videos on Youtube for 350Z oil change and all of their filters are mounted on the left/passenger side, so it's safe to say you have an AWD.

Richard, check your manual, it should be listed. I just found out for FX35 AWD the oil filter faces the front, FX35 RWD faces the passenger side tire and the FX45 AWD only faces driver side tire.

+++1... the oil filter points towards you / front for awd, points left if rwd... both are located on the passenger side for the fx35... or if you want to be absolutely, positively sure you have awd, put it on a lift, set to "D" and watch your front wheels spin... :smile (2):

If you feel like it, you can look under your car. AWD has a bigger transmission/transfer case than RWD.

Or drive it around. If you get atrocious gas mileage, it's AWD.
