Had a little Thanksgiving mishap. After traveling 200 miles Wednesday my wife, dog, and I hit a deer 5 miles from my in-laws house. We were not hurt at all. The little doe pushed in the grill and bumper and a tiny crease on the passenger fender. The airbags deployed as I was hard on the brakes and the little tap triggered the sensor.

My wife dropped the f-bomb for the first time in the nine years I've known her. I was completely unfazed by the whole thing as I had a feeling it was going to happen. I'm not very religious or spiritual even, but I had been thinking it was going to happen for a few days prior. My wife and everyone else knowing how much I love my car were completely surprised at my reaction. It is just a car. I was surprised as we had no ill effects from the airbags. (burns, bruises etc.)

I was able to drive it the rest of the way that night. Yesterday, I drove it with the seatbelts locked to the body shop in the nearest larger city in the area. I am going to put the '12 bumper and grill on as I like the updated look more than what I had. It's across the state and I will have to wait at least two weeks to get it back. I did call the Infiniti dealer in Milwaukee and they recommended I take it to an Infiniti certified body shop there (the only one in the state) It would have cost me at least $500 to ship it there. So I went to the closest place and got a rental. I feel pretty comfortable taking it to an Abra franchise as it is mostly cosmetic. Estimate of damage: 10K= ouch.

Yeah, thats a little tuft of hair in the crack in the upper fender.

You know, just a couple weeks ago I had a deer walk out in front of me, and it got me wondering how the FX would fare against a deer. I had wondered if anyone ever hit one hard.

Good to see this wasn't too bad.

Ouch, it's a good thing you and the family are okay. The FX is a safe vehicle and it can be fixed like new again. The 2012 front end sounds like a good move.

I once almost hit a deer driving my mustang cobra with snow tires on....I thought I was gonna total the car not from hitting the dear but trying to get the car back under control with oncoming traffic since the snow tires basically make you feel like you are ridding on jello especially when you make hard turns.

Sorry to hear man! Glad you and your family is safe.

I assume both airbags deployed and not just one since you said your wife was in the car? If that's the case the whole dash will need torn out since its all one piece. The thought of something like that doesn't put my mind at ease. From the looks of it the hood looks misaligned too. There definitely is more damage than what appears.

No venison, the cop who happened upon the scene not five minutes after it happened tried to find it with his lights, but is was long gone.

That's a bummer. I almost hit a deer with the FX a couple weeks ago. Slammed on the brakes so hard and just sat there waiting until it moved on.

I've had many critters cross my path over the years. I've had moose, bison, deer, free range cattle, wild burrows, turkeys and hundreds of smaller critters.Thank goodness I have not connected with any of them.
My youngest daughter has had accidents with deer twice in her car.

Glad your ok, I would have been trippin balls. Your FX doesn't look badly damaged in the pics though

Finally got the car back from my accident about two weeks ago. I am mostly happy with the change to the new bumper. The color was not matched perfectly. The body shop guy told me the paint is so touchy that there will be differences depending on where in the booth the part is painted. As time as gone on, and with a few washes, it does appear to be less noticeable.

The other issue is the camera. I had it at the dealer today and they said the '12 camera will not be recognized by the car. I have to take it back and they are going to put the '09 camera in and that it's going to take two hours to calibrate and initialize?

That's my boy Ty completing the all white composition.

I had this problem too with the camera after the tree and power line fell on my car. When my mirror was replaced with a new one the computer wouldn't recognize the camera on the side view mirror. I had a big x over the screen of the around view monitor. Some little programming here and there with the Consult III computer and it was recognized. They said the cameras have different serial numbers and when replaced it needs to be reprogrammed every time to recognize the new serial number.

A lot of bodyshops make up excuses to colors not matching. To a competant bodyshop a tricoat color is easy to match. The bodyshop my car was at lays pearl tricoat colors all day long and all of them match 100%. It all depends on how good their technique is and how good they are blending in the surrounding areas.

Your ride is looking good bro!
