I swap my brick interior and black headliner from my FX35 into my FX45 that comes with black interior and wheat headliner, but leaving the brick carpet in the FX35 with black seats and wheat headliner just not right! So decided to dye the brick color carpet into black to match up with the rest of the interior in the FX35. I put together this DIY for your reference if you decided to take on your own carpet dying project.

Material:
1 bottle of 8 fl oz. Rit black fabric dye; http://www.walmart.com/ip/Rit-Black-15-Dye-8-fl-oz/11078328
1 car wash sponge; http://www.walmart.com/ip/AutoShow-SoftGrip-Sponge/17165781

1 5-gallon pail/bucket
1 or 2 pairs of rubber/latex gloves
1 or 2 safety masks
1 cup of vinegar

Instructions:
1. Remove the carpet from the car. Remove the carpet require the removal of all seats, center console, lower B-pillars, and various plastic trimmings
2. Clean the carpet thoroughly. Shampoo & vacuum and let it dry if its wet from cleaning.
3. Follow the direction on the Rit Dye bottle to prepare the color bath. I mix the entire bottle in a 3 gallons of hot water with 1 cup of regular vinegar.
4. Dip the sponge into the color dye mixture and work the dye into the carpet generously. Make sure you have your gloves on.
Note: If where you at have lot of sun and warmer temperature and don’t mind the a longer down time, you may want consider dipping the entire carpet into a kiddie wading pool with the color dye bath/mixture and let it seat in the dye bath for a little while for better result. Since I was doing this in late October and not much sun and temperature is in the 40 –50 degree, I chose to use the sponge and apply the dye into the carpet. It still took a whole week to dry out seating in the garage.
5. Once the carpet is all dried up, vacuum if necessary. Then spray the SEM Color Coat directly onto the carpet. While the paint still wet, brush the carpet pile in all direction to prevent it from harden and clumped up and work your way to cover the entire carpet.
6. Let it dry and air out the paint fume.

I have to say, it turns out better than I have expected. Hope that it will last, but I will never know since I plan to sell this FX much l once it all ready to show. If you're wondering how it felt like with the spray paint on the carpet. Let me put is this way, if stock carpet is a 10, the dye bath and spray painted carpet is a 8 or 9 to me.
