Mystery leak - wet carpets

I had a front passenger drain hole plugged up one time (not the FX) and it was crazy how the water would slosh forward then run out back down the weather strip and it the back foot well, drove me crazy trying to track it down.

You might want install a motion/infra camera just to see if this incident is a foul play issue. Based on all the potty talk I wouldn't be surprised if Rich isn't flying out and unloading his bladder in your ride.

Tim, I will wait for the verdict tomorrow! Enough said!

UPDATE:

-Good news-
I have confirmed that the liquid soaking my floor mats and collecting in the floor pan (about 1/8" deep) is water, and traced the leak up the driver's side A-pillar, to the roof. That eliminates door seals, heater core, windshield seal/drain, firewall penetration, and bodily fluids.

At this point Im thinking either the sunroof seal has failed or the drain is clogged up to the point that its overflowing from the inlet. I guess it could also be the roof rail penetrations, but I never use them so I think its less likely.

It also appears the rear carpets were just retaining condensation from the long term installation of the all weather mats. Everything back there is now dry.

-Bad news-
Driver seat is soaked from leaving the FX uncovered last night to illicit evidence, as are the front carpets, subfloor insulation, headliner, and A-pillar trim. That means a near full interior removal to dry everything out properly.

I'll post some pics later. I have a lot to do before dark...

sucks to hear man. Hope you get everything resolved.

Thanks. Its not so bad. I've actually done most of this before when I accidentally left the sunroof completely open overnight, then came out the next morning to find it had rained. :(

At least I don't have to take it in to the stealership to fix the problem. I cant imagine the bill I'd get for that work.

Nice piece of detective work. I rember a failing seal on my Landcruiser that was a pain to find. Sorry to hear about the soaked parts, just what you needed....

After narrowing the possibilities to sunroof seal or sunroof drain line, I called the local stealer to check prices.

Parts rep: "The seal is not sold separately. It only comes as part of the glass sunroof assembly."

Me: "OK, How much and how long?"

Parts rep: "Looks like $661.35 and three days lead time."

1) the dealer is robbing you at $661
2) a tube of caulk is $3.79
3) there has to be some option in the middle

Reminds me of the Jackass episode when Steve-O pierced his butt cheeks together.

I was suggesting using the right part the righr way but finding it for less. And I liked the picture.

Update:

The mystery has been solved and the repair has been implemented. I ran it through the high pressure auto wash a few minutes ago to confirm.

Details at 11:00.
