Hey peeps, I've been looking for a good infiniti forum to surf for info and so far this one seems pretty legit! My wife has recently decided that she wants a nice new (used) SUV so I informed her that she is NOT allowed to choose her next car... Yeah, I know.. I know... That sounds cold but I have good reason to tell her that! her last car was a 2004 Santa Fe awd with 76K miles on the clock and it now has 165K miles on it and is only worth $5K or less. I want her to buy a car that retains value a bit better then her last car so I have given her 2 options... Both cars are very fun sporty SUV's and come with A LOT of options for the amount of money.... I am a guy and would go with the srt8 in a heartbeat but its not gonna be my car so I thought I would post up and get some info.... Anyways here is the guidelines that I gave my wife when looking for her new whip... sorry for the long read...

Any 2007 thru 2010 FX35 awd with less then 60K miles and no more than a $25k purchase price or.... (yes, i will mod if purchased)

any 2007 thru 2009 Jeep GC SRT-8 with less then 60K miles and no more than a $25k purchase price...

btw, I also own a 2005 CTS-V w/ muffler delete, Magnaflow tips, Kags eliminator, and K&N drop in muffler.

whoop whoop! its 50/50 at the moment... lol

Both are a big step up from the Santa Fe. The only things the Jeep has over the FX are power and off road potential. Unless you (she) value those two things above all else, I'd go with the FX.

Thanks for the input... How do the FX's do with high mileage? She likes to keep her cars for a long time... I know the srt8s are good with high mileage but im new to the infiniti world... Any input is very appreciated...

oh, and what is the difference between the 03 thru 08 FX35s and the 09 thru current FX35s?

Don't think the SRT8 really has much off road potential. Definitely a sweet car though. If it is for your wife, I would probably go for the FX for the better gas mileage and more luxurious/quiet ride. Then again, I don't know what your wife is looking for in a car, but it doesn't sound like she has much of an option anyway. Plus, the SRT8 would be pretty similar to your CTSV, loud and brute power. It would be nice to have a quieter/tamer car to take out once in a while

06-08 has minor exterior changes as well as interior changes. More chrome on the outside and improved dash on the inside pretty much. 09+ has a drastically improved interior, and completely different exterior design, some would say better some would say worse. No question the interior is far better however.

Thanks, This is very helpful... She is not into hp so I think she is going to go the FX way... I dont have an issue with that as I have ALWAY thought the FX line up was soooo sexy... At this point unless the FX35s become unreliable after 115K miles its going to be parked in the garage next to my V1...

are mods for this car cheap? It costs $1000.00 just for a CAI and dyno tune on the V so it would be nice to get something that is a bit cheaper to mod... lol

1st gen FXs are very reliable up to and beyond 115k miles. Some have 200k...

The mods aren't miata cheap but they're not terrible. The best 1st gen cai (Stillen) is $250 and a dyno tune is around $400 depending on where you go.

If you like the look of the 2nd gen, you should get that. The improvements are significant and global to the platform.

Fun factor jeep (based on raw power) but you can bring some of that back with mods. The FX will crush the Jeep with regards to reliability.....

I do like the srt8 I see myself staring at them frequently...I was in between these two as well...but the older srt8 which to me doesn't look nearly as nice as the new ones. I think the FX is the way to go in your situation. If power is what you want why not go for a 45 or 50

I was in love with the SRT8 since it came out and lusted after them for years. I picked one up to drive for a few days, it had 29K on it, and was so disappointed! Sure, it has a huge motor but at the end of the day its a Chrysler. Outside it looks amazing. Inside is a disaster. The ride position is awkward and everything in the interior looks and feels cheap. The one I drove already had a brake problem where the front caliper was grabbing and by the time I got it home it was smoking! I didnt even have the change to run it through its paces. Also, tires are $$, no spare either if I recall.

The jeep has no handling and if you like going fast in straight lines go for it, the FX can be modded for power and hits the curvier roads pretty well if I say so :good:

I love how we can see exactly who are the traitors who voted against the FX. :rotfl:

your not going to find any second gen 09+ under $25K. Base models with high miles I've seen in the low 30's maybe around $29K

I would not suggest buying a cheap used SRT8, there will be a reason why it's priced low!!!
