fuel problem

My wife was driving the fx and it ran out of gas on her. I came and put more gas in it. Everything seemed cool. Two days later it starts funny, idles a bit rough, and idles low and then goes to its normal setting. WHat is wrong? sometimes it takes like 4-7 seconds to crank. I tried fuel injector cleaner on a half tank. still the same. What should i do?
 
It's never a good idea to run a tank dry any settled contaminates could get into the fuel system and cause issues like your having. That being said your best bet would probably take it to a reputable shop and have the fuel system serviced/cleaned.
 
One of my pet peeves is, I never fill up my tank when I see the tanker is dumping into the station's underground tank. Same idea, I guess. The settlements maybe the problem. Many argues that there are all kinds of filters before the gas gets to the injector. Heck, if I can avoid a headache, I would!

I agree I never fill at a station where I see a fuel truck delivering fuel.Better safe than sorry.
 
Could be a partially clogged fuel filter or the fuel pump was damaged when the tank got low.

Also, you should teach your wife how to read a fuel gauge. :tongue:
 
Side note, do our fuel filters get replaced? I know other cars in the maintenance manual it states to replace the fuel filter every 30 or 60k miles and I've done it on my mustang, saturn, etc, but no where for the infiniti does it state that anywhere, nor has the dealer mentioned it.

Do we have some sort of internal special fuel filters that don't need maintenance for 2009+? Sorry, I know we are in the 08 thread, but figured I'd ask you guys too :)

According to the 2007 service guide, the fuel filter is a maintenance free item. I assume that means it doesn't need replacing.

Seems it's the same for 2009.

I'm assuming(and hoping) they did testing and there was never enough dirt or other crap to fully clog up the filter. I guess enough of it stays suspended in the gasoline. Or it's designed specially the divert the dirt and still allow optimal fuel flow, like a cone or something.
 
Its not a "lifetime" filter in that its intended to last the life of the vehicle, its designed to last the life of the pump. When the filter clogs the pump will fail. New pump =new filter.

So can you replace the filter with the intent of having the pump hopefully not fail as soon? I would think it would be a good measure to do anyway, unless Infiniti had made these fuel filters impossibly hard to access and/or without removing the pump filter or something. I know on American cars they are very very easy to get to and replace.
 
My understanding is the pump and the filter are one assembly. So when ur pump does fail, u will be replacing the filter as well. A lot of cars have gone to a in tank filter.
