unfortunately op, adding mods is a double edge sword, at least for me.. yes it's suppose to give you better mpg, however with the extra hp you are getting, you are more likely to drive a little more aggressively, which now lowers your mpg even more..

I got this one all day... Do like the Flinstones from Bedrock and cut holes in the floor, that way you can literally floor it and save gas. Lol

True. Thnik about gunning it under tunnels and covered bridges just for the pleasure of hearing the engine roar.

The decision making process when buying the FX should start with either getting a Prius the FX. Once the initial shortlist is made, expand further to what specific vehicle you really want. Not the other way around of getting the FX and worry about the mpg later or getting the Prius and hating the drive for the rest of your driving days as long as you have the Prius in your garage. Just thinking out loud.

everytime.. or making a right turn, 2nd gear.. and everyone on your left is stopped, windows opened, waiting for their green... a quick wot and engine roar bouncing back from their cars.. :smile (2):
 
i get like 290-300 miles on tank. I'll be happy to even get that 50 miles, but yes the feather foot mod is the best option for you.
 
Interesting.. my trip to ATX and back was about ~320mi, but I have 110 left on the tank before topping off.
Everything is stock besides having a K&N drop-in filter and my exhaust is 1-2 years old.
 
^ did you engage cruise control? My trip from NY to GA and GA to TX has seen me gaining MPG to 27-29mpg. Now in TX, I average 290-300 to the gallon like Erik does. Though I usually tank up once the needle hits the first line so there is still a good probably additional 70 - 90k in there according to the trip computer. I would not want to find out though :smile (2):

Oh of course not, I normally do when I'm driving around the city.
But this was a last minute thing and I needed to stay awake, cruise control makes me sleepy at times.
Plus the cruise control has a max speed, I believe.. and I was for sure exceeding it at times.
 
Ya 90 is the max cruise control will let you go. I had to take off cruise control when I was on my way to fort worth to keep up with the little convoy we had going. :eek:

Cruise control makes me sleepy as well, i only use the cruise control when my foot gets numbed or tired lmao.
 
Why a better milage, if you buy this car you know it's gonna cost you a lot of gas. A better response okay, but a better milage, hmm???

Yeah going into neutral with an automatic car might eventually cost you a transmission, it's not like a stick.

I think most of you did not understand the reason for this thread. I understand that this car does not get the best MPG, or has the technology of cars of 2012.. All I was trying to get at is I purchased a used car and wanted to see how I can improve the MPG. I'm not stating I want 30+mpg, the car was advertised for 25 highway and I get a little under 20, just trying to improve. I've figured out what I wanted to do already after doing a bit more research.
 
Yea I agree, If doing some performance mod will also net potential mileage improvement it will help make the mod decision easier. I get 14-15 mpg per tank. Yea i've got 20's where flat highway driving or generally down hill driving is involved. Also driving slow and steady seems to help a lot. I drove at like 60 on the freeway once since i was following a friend with a trailer, and the mileage improved quite a bit.

I always assumed doing performance mods would make your mileage worse...

Do you guys think replacing plugs will make an improvement to mileage. i'm at 50k, and assuming its the original plugs, unless they were changed at 30k, but I doubt it, seems plugs are rated at 100k these days.

I have the K&N drop in, how much more performance/improvement would a big CAI do?

How does a plenum spacer help in mileage.
 
Plugs should still be good, K&N drop in is pretty much worthless or is a marginal gain, CAI is good if you tie it together with a quality exhaust and a tune. Plenum spacer will increase power, decrease MPG.
