GEE35FX's Route 66 Road Trip

Karen and I had another great day today. We travelled on old Route 66 from Barstow to Victorville (just before San Bernadino) We met some great characters on the route.

The highlight for today was meeting another great IS member "porkandbeans". Karen and I enjoyed a nice visit with him, and seriously his 2003 Laser Red FX45 is one clean unit, it is immaculate.
We left with a couple bottles of nice wine with personalized labels, love the labels, thanks porkandbeans :smile (2):

Wayne, it was great to meet you and Karen as well. Your contagious smile lightens up every story told with colorful enthusiasm. Thanks for stopping by my little Route 66 town and sharing the tales of your adventurous journey with me. Best wishes friendly travelers! Continue the joy of the open road!

Pork, your laser red sure is in "immaculant" shape. Love it! Not to mention those custom labels, wow how awesome!

Pork, we thank you for your knowledge of the the area and your hospitality, we enjoyed our visit in your beautiful town.

Andy, Pork's FX looks better than it came off the showroom.

Stayed at a hotel in Pasedena last night, it is on Colorado Ave which is part of Route 66. Heading towards Santa Monica Pier in LA today.
We want to make sure we are out of this area before Carmegeden arrives here this weekend (that is on the news constantly here warning people about it).

Too kind, gents. You are too kind.
But, I did cheat. I had a few miles of road grime versus a few thousand miles dirt road adventure. The Wayne-mobile is the clean one. It's amazing that you came all that way without hitting a single bug along the way. Spotless! The travel organization is something to mention. They each one small luggage and the whole trunk is full of car detailing supplies. It was great! You can do a full on cross country mobile detailing thing! The love for the FX is so obvious.
I do give mad props to Karen for being such an enthusiastic trooper along the way. They both really enjoy every moment and it's great to see such happiness.
Carmagedon: Yeah, local LA media is easily excited. Maybe it will sprinkle and you can experience Storm Watch 2012. lol

Today we drove Route 66 all the way from Pasedena to Santa Monica Pier, except for a the spots where you had to take the Interstate.
We walked tha walk of Fame on Hollywood Blvd, walked along Palisades Park, went in the water at Santa Monica Pier.
Now we are checked into a Best Western Hotel at Marina del Rey.

Tomorrow we are driving up Rte 1 along the California Coast.

The FX is running like a champ, although the crack in the windshield is about 10" long now.

I have not been able to post all the pics I planned to because of the lousy Wifi we have been getting at many Hotels. I know I will be posting many more when we are home.

Three weeks left for the trip and lovin it.

Time for the Seattle leg Wayne?
Lance I tried to talk Karen into it, but, no deal this time. We promised we would stay at a couple of friends houses in Colorado on the way back, along with a couple other stops.
One of these days we will get there, even if we have to fly out and rent a car.

Enjoying a cold Brewskis right now then we are going for a swim at the beach.

It's been great Rip, we just went for a swim in the ocean and then a swim in the pool, we are lovin it.

Rip, I apologize for not getting together with you.

No worries Wayne, I'm just glad you are having a great trip so far, especially in Cali. One day we will meet lol, enjoy your trip man

Just checked into a room outside of Cambria, Ca.
Drove from Santa Barbara and saw many neat places on the way.
Porkandbeans gave us some suggestions on routes and places to see and he has been right on , Thanks Pork :good: That Madonna Inn was really something, lol, love the men's restroom with the cascading waterfall urinals, I even took Karen in there to show her. That place is off the hook.
Tomorrow we are touring the Hearst Castle, then continuing towards San Fran.

Porkandbeans is the man when it comes to suggestions. Helped me out when we were in Maui

Thanks Pork, got your PM, the travel trips are appreciated as always.

Stayed last night in San Simeon, Ca.
Left this morning and went to the Hearst castle, what a magnificent place it is, sitting high up.in the hills. We spent 3 hours there.
From there we went up the PCH (rte 1) and a few miles from Hearst Castle we saw hundreds of Elephant seals on the shoreline, they are such big brutes.
We continued up the Northern PCH, lots of magnificent vistas along the way. There were many switchbacks and fun driving. We were going to stop at Big Sur but it was extremely busy.
We continued on through Carmel and got a hotel in Monterey! Ca.

I'll post a few pics tonight.
