GEE35FX's Route 66 Road Trip

Wayne, how is the actual road condition so far? I assumed it would be well maintained considering its popularity but in that pic of you evading the dirt pile it looks a little rough...

Tim, some of the original Rte 66 are narrow and a bit bumpy, and much of it has deteriorated and they run an alternate Rte 66 beside the original. Sometimes you have a choice of two routes, the original that they warn can be rough or an alternate. For example today we took one section on Route 66 called the Ozark trail between Tulsa and Oklahoma city, it was really rough, narrow and lots of winding road. Another thing, the original route is always not far from the railway tracks, as they both worked their way west.
If you get to an area that does not have a lot of attractions you can always travel the Interstates which are never far away.

any comments on your FX along the way? :)
Honestly Aaron, it is a remarkable cruising machine. We are usually on the road for 6 to 7 hours a day that includes side trips lunch etc. We never tire of it We generally put in $55 to $65 worth of fuel a day. Oil is always good. I run my tire pressure in my 20's at 35psi per tire.
With my Zaino Sealant the car always looks clean at least from a distance. I have not given it a full wash yet and we had a couple days of intermittent rain.
The portable Garmin always outperforms the OEM nav.
All the tech features are a must to make this a touring machine.

Only downside is my broken windshield, the crack grew another 2" today, it's now about 8" long, it starts in the top passenger corner and comes down about 8". It seemed to get worse today when the windshield was wet then dried out. Tonight I put clear silicone in the rock chip and crack in hopes of slowing it down, since I would rather wait to replace it when I get home.

You can also try super glue. It is harder and will hold stronger than silicone, and I don't think you need the water resistant properties of silicone.

Day 2

We left Plymouth Michigan arond 9:30am. Since we had been in Chicago a couple of months ago with the Chicago Boyz we decided to pick up Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois.
They had a great Route 66 Museum in Joliet.

We met this young couple on their honeymoon from Barcelona, Spain, they loved bear. We got together with this couple later that day on Route 66.

The displays were pretty neat there.

We then left Joliet and continued on to Dwight, Illinois and on the way we stopped at the Polka Dot Diner. They had some neat stuff there.

Wow wish I knew when you would have been in Joliet I easily would have met you!
Heck If I had known you lived around there, I would have made a side trip to meet up with you. Darn.

6 Pack of Callifornia Beach Babes :smile (2):
Jeff, all I could fit in the trunk would be 6 inflatable Beach Babes, and you will have to blow them up.
