I'm thinking of going hybrid (i know...i know)

I've had my '09 Black FX50 sport for a little over a year now and absolutely love the beast. I love the power, the look, the technology, and I've been a devoted Infiniti driver since my '06 Black Infiniti M35 Sport and M35x. I am a sales rep and my company reimburses me gas depending on my city mpg. Currently, I am reimbursed 60% for my 14 mpg city on the FX50.

But i'm 30 years old with two kids now looking to purchase a larger house. My brother in law has opened my eyes to the new 2013 Lexus ES 300 hybrid that gets 40 mpg. I would receive 100% of my gas reimbursement and additional cash back to my monthly auto reimbursement (seperate from my gas reimbursement.)

I'm trying to see the big picture. Sure, I love my FX50. But being a little more mature with my current situation of finding a larger home, I see myself saving money on fill -ups, receiving more money back from my company than I currently do.

Anyone have any experience with hybrids? I'm taking it for the day tuesday and using it for work to get a taste of what I'd be getting myself into.

Honestly, I'd like to keep both :rotfl:

If u are talking about mpg and hybrids, not sure why u got the FX50 and not the FX35. I would look at the M hybrid. It's amazing!

With a Hybrid, you over pay for similar gas only model only to save on gas down the road , the savings in the end are pretty much none

Or no gas with Tesla X-----///7002[/ATTACH]

I remember when the first either Toyota or Honda hybrid came out, and they compared the extra cost vs. gas savings. You had to either own one for many years or drive a whole lot.

Sound reasoning I suppose. Have you worked out the true savings involved in hybrid ownership? If it makes that much sense and makes you feel good, who are we to object.

The hybrid technology is still a bit new for me to sign on to, when it becomes a little more established and a little more polished, I'm hoping to see it in the FX body and I will be all over that like me on a smartie.

I would definitely go back to the M series, but the hybrid only comes in rwd, terrible in Northeast weather.

At the time of purchase, I loved the power of the FX50 and believed that my company's 60% gas reimbursement should be ok. Subjectively, it really does help with owning a gas guzzler like the FX50. I just want to save more I guess.

I felt the same way about hybrids, but I can't oversee of a large cost savings. Here's how I would break it down:

1.) I would receive another 20 dollars a month towards my car payment reimbursement ( 355.00 to 375.00) = 240.00/savings a year

2.) I would receive 100% gas reimbursement rather than 60%, so I would never pay for gas out of my own pocket.
I expense about 350.00/month and lose 40% = 140.00/month. 140.00 x 12 months = 1,680 savings a year

Total est. savings of 1,920 / year

Car payment would be about 433.00 with a lower 1.9 finance rate (compared to my 450.00 and 2.9 rate with infiniti)

I'm far from a decision and love my fx50 too much to switch it up. But gas is going up and I can't keep justifying 91.00 at the pump

as long as you don't take the route to Prius, I guess that's OK.

Why an ESh? Why not the new Prius line or the Insight? Those would be a more of a financial and logic choice in the hybrid route. The new ES hybrid uses the 2.5 and not the 3.5 (which I think should be used instead)

I was in a similar situation, was looking for a hybrid and went into a Lexus dealership. Came home with an RX hybrid. 4 months later I bought an FX. Hybrids are not fun, even with their instant torque it was too comfortable and quiet.

Long story short...I'm keeping the beast.

I test drove a fully loaded ES300h and RX 460h. I mean, I could probably get used to the "silent engines" and maybe the CVT. But for the amount of money I would be paying (46k for the es and 56k for rx) I really did not enjoy the gadgets and options available. I felt like they were a step behind what I already had on my FX.

After 2 hours of test driving and discussion, I stepped back into my FX50 sport and enjoyed the roar of the engine. When infiniti comes out with an FX hybrid, I'll revisit this option.

I doubt there will be an FX50 Hybrid, because FX35/FX50 are by definition Sports SUVs and no hybrid will ever be made or targeted for that market :)

Or Porsche Panamera S Hybrid. VERY IMPRESSIVE CAR:

333hp(gas)+ 47(elec) = 380hp
325(gas)+221(elec)= 428(comb) lb/ft torque
Mpg - 22city -30hwy
0-60 5.7 sec (est, have seen tests faster)

Motortrend test:
0-30- 1.8sec
0-40- 2.9sec
0-50- 4.0sec
0-60- 5.2sec
0-70- 6.8sec
0-80- 8.6sec
0-90- 10.5sec
0-100- 13.3sec

1/4 mile - 13.8sec @ 101.5mph

My brother has a Toyota Camry Hybrid. He loves it and hates is at the same time. He loves the gas mileage and how he fills up once a month. He hates how its a Camry and every other car in a parking lot is a Camry too. :rotfl:

I know a hand full of hybrid owners and many of them don't own them long. When its time to get a newer car then go for a gas/diesel option.

I guess once the novelty of higher mpg goes away there is nothing left. I remember the numbers of a 30 mpg car vs 40 mpg hybrid being a yearly savings of $500-700. You pay a normal $4-8k premium for it so do the math roughly. Not including maintenance work.

My coworker leased a Volt for driving to work everyday. He pays $400 a month for the car lease and is saving $350-$375 a month in gas, so it is a no-brainer for him on the dollars sides. His home electric bill has not noticeably increased and he charges up at work for free, plus he keeps the wear and tear on his Boxster S to weekends and evenings, so it was a good decision in his case. I'm waiting on the Tesla X to come out though... FX50/Cayenne GTS performance and no gasoline bills! Hopefully it is reliable and affordable... Come on Elon Musk, make it work!
