Ran out of gas

Location
NYC
My wife was driving the fx and it ran out of gas on her. I came and put more gas in it. Everything seemed cool. Two days later it starts funny, idles a bit rough, and idles low and then goes to its normal setting. WHat is wrong? I tried fuel injector cleaner on a half tank. still the same. What should i do?

Sounds like you may have picked up some dirt from bottom of your fuel tank you might want to take it in and have fuel system checked and cleaned.

I doubt the two are related. Since you have a 2006, I'd say that you're suffering from what many 2006 owners are suffering from (including myself). It seems that in most cases, cold mornings after sitting overnight..sometimes the car wont start at all. When it does actually start (second try) the revs go up and down until it settles back to a cold idle. From what I've read, this is the AC Amplifier going bad. Apparently most of the electronics run through this part...its behind the nav screen. I think it was something like $375 online. I have this issue and plan to replace it as soon as it happens a few more times.

Interesting. How did you pin point it was AC amplifier?

Obviously I cant pinpoint that it is the AC Amplifier....it just sounds eerily familiar. I've read that even the rough start goes away with the replacement of the amplifier. I was also speculating based on his location and the colder temps that have dropped on us in the last few weeks.

No, what I meant was, how did you comes to conclusion to fix yours with a new AC amp.

Identical situation happened to a local guy, right down to the temps and jumpy idle and having to start the car twice....first thing he replaced was the ac amplifier and it fixed his issues since ~3 years ago. It also got rid of his cold morning start stumble and funny idle.

If I didn't know anything about the ac amp, I would personally pin it on fuel or spark and the associated components.

......btw.....Excellent post on the diff/transfer case fluid changes.

I have a simalar issue. Mine is 2006 and in he morning has a slight rough start...nothing big though. It kind of stutters and then starts up. But later in the day it starts like a champ. I just happen to be at the dealer getting my dash replaced due to the bubbles and they ran through my car and told me my battery is nearly dead. So I plan on picking up a new battery this weekend and hoping that fixes the problem. I thought it might be the sparks too but I only have 59k miles and sparks don't wear out that soon.
