2009-2012 Infiniti FX35/FX50 AC Compressor Whine/Low Pitch Noise

I placed my order to buy Hose Flexible (92490-3WY0A) from InfinitiPartsUSA.com which is mentioned in TSB but have been informed about the status of my order. Now it is Back Order status. It looks like I need to wait 4-6 weeks to receive.

Is anyone has replaced Hose in his FX50 ? What is the result ?

The result should be no whine/hum coming from the A/C compressor.

I am asking from someone who already done it...
according to TSB it should fix noise from AC Compressor but I would like to be sure that can be fixed permanently.

Hey Yerbol,

I sent da Mayor on Aug 22 (aka infiniti Kenny dealer guy with the vinyl wrapped FX50) asking for help if the hose replacing got rid of the noise for him since he had posted that he ordered it through the dealer and has the connections with the mechanics - but he never responded to me leaving me having to try it all myself. I also wanted the part number just to make sure the right thing would be replaced - but didn't get a response back.

So, thank you for posting the part # because it does appear to be the same one.

So, I got the hose replaced Friday. On the invoice it says per TSIB # ITB12-042 and that they used part HOSE FLEXIBLE, HIGH-92490-3WY0A. Not sure if the "HIGH" in front of the part matters.

Anyway, here is my story: The whine was really bad at times. Back in the spring, they installed a whole new a/c compressor. I noticed that the whine diminished A LOT didn't hear it much anymore, but did hear it still sometimes just much quieter. Friday I got the TSB hose replaced. On the invoice it says noise went away, but Friday as I was listening closely, I can still hear it and more than before. Yes, you heard me correctly, it's louder.

Saturday I drove the car and didn't really hear it. Today I haven't driven yet, but will soon. It took the dealer a long time to install the new part...a few hours...saying that getting to it was hard or replacing the old one was hard, or something. By the way, the part was on back order too, took the dealer about a month to get it in stock so that they can do this for me. So I bet a lot of people are getting this done.

I was hoping to get more feedback from Kenny, but like I said, he isn't responding regarding this, so I'd be interested to see how your outcome is and if you are doing it yourself or a dealer, but since you bought the part of infinitiusa, I suspect yourself? I may go back and ask them to take a look at it regarding this, but only if I hear it more and depending on what your experience is with the hose, or if you guys mention something or have me check something. Any info would be appreciative.

I'd love to get more details on the hose, like what it looks like before and what it looks like after and what was causing the noise and why it's supposed to go away to try and figure out why I'm hearing it more now (at least Friday seemed louder). But I didn't really get that kind of detail from the dealer that I wanted to (not my usual Infiniti dealer) and not from Kenny.

Update from my end:

2011 FX35...

After waiting a few weeks for the updated hose (I believe the HIGH just denotes its the high pressure hose; at least that's what I was told), I was told the TSB only applies to the FX50. I also confirmed myself that the TSB is a 50-only bulletin. I spoke with the parts manager who confirmed that both the compressor and the hose in question are different on the 35 versus 50. So, the TSB cannot be applied to the 35 regardless as there is no new high pressure hose made for a 35.

The shop foreman agreed that my compressor was loud and replaced it as he believed the noise was coming from the bearing nearest the pulley. I didn't think it would help but let them do the warranty work anyway. Well, after about two weeks, I can say that the new compressor is actually quiter than the old one. And I've used the A/C controls to manually turn on the A/C for hours on end since the weather has been cooler. It still seems quieter to this point. I'm hoping it actually stays that way long term.

David, I've noticed that the noise is louder during summer or when driving a very very long time...maybe pressure builds up or something, not sure. Hot summer day is the true test. I've never heard anything at all even with the old compressor and hose when it's cooler out or cold during winter (even when the a/c is always on, which it is because climate control is always on). Thanks for the update though. I can confirm as well that replacing the compressor did make it better though, but not sure now what's going on with the new replaced hose.

Kenny no longer works for Infiniti

Thanks for the info.

Mine has the same issue and it's really bad. It literally sounds like there is a supercharger under the hood when the AC is running and your lightly coasting through a parking lot. It sounds exactly like supercharger whine from the compressor.

yeah i agree, that's a good way of explaining how it sounds. I'm really perplexed whey the switching the compressor reduced the issue (still heard it occasionally though but much less) and new hose made it a bit worse again. If you have any ideas or anything to check out, let me know.

I wonder if they did a running change to the compressors. I can't even offer an explanation as to why the new hose would make it worse. Strange.

Basically an update to the part while they are still making it. A design change or some change they made for improvement.

An example is the 2011 FX had a running change of the power tailgate. Early 11s don't have it, later 11s do. Make sense?

ah yeah I understand. Well today I drove the FX and didn't hear it, but maybe because it wasn't warm enough...only time will tell.

It will be interesting to get Yerbol's install details when he gets it done and any other FX50 to get more details.

Hi jdTrader,

Thanks for spending time to share with information you have.
It is pity to hear that TSB did not work well with A/C in your car.
Once I receive my ordered Hose I will go to replace it and if there are any news about it I will post it here. Hopefully It will work for me.

yerbol,
Take pictures of the old hose, new hose, and how it looks installed if you can. I'd like to compare to my install just to make certain ours are alike, if possible. In the meantime, I'll be listening extra careful for the noise.

Today I didn't hear it.

I'm SO glad I found this thread...I thought I was going crazy ! I was searching this seciton because apparently there is a TSB for my media screen where it keeps shutting on and off by itself repeatidly...glad I found this thread ! Hopefully I can get both of these knocked out before I take my FX down to Coronado to SoCalPerformance to get my UpRev tune done...have an appointment for next Friday Nov 16th...
