Slow speed vibration.

Hi guys,
I have a problem there that's been driving me nutz. So here is the problem. I have a vibration that i feel on the truck from 0-12mph. it's a slight vibration becomes more noticeable after the fx been driven for a while. I do have a steering wheel shake at 60+ mph. I had it taken to the dealer local to me, had the wheels balanced, then alignment done, so paid $120 for diagnostic and they said they found nothing. So here's my question is this is it normal for awd to have a slight vibration in low speeds? Or is it the transfer case issue? I been looking all over the forums for possible causes but unfortunately found nothing. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

That is not normal, there should be no vibration or steering wheel shake at any speed. I would have it checked at a reputable Infiniti dealer

Kind of dumb suggestion but check your air in the tires if your running 20oem I think it should be like 32. They should all be the same psi if they are off by a lot it would cause a shake.

Maybe the wheel hub is going bad? I saw another guy on here was getting vibrations while driving his 45 and the hubs were the root of the cause.

I havent adjucmsyed the rack bolt. Here is the woerd part the shake is there from 0 to 7mph under light throttle. Then gone. If i take off hard then less shake or none at all. I am a car guy and not being able to figure it out is annoying me. Also the dealer adjusted the tires to 37 when on the door it clearly says 32. I am no expert that work at infiniti dealer the response i got when i complained.

check ur motor mounts they might be busted

adjust the rack bolt, then see if the 60mph shake is gone

Similar issue, not exact; but changing my wheel bearings made a huge difference and the vehicle drove like new (night and day difference)

Just have a shop check out the bearings, tie rods etc... and tire pressure.

I would use a torque wench and check the lug nuts all around and see if they are torqued to 80ft/lbs. Maybe a few lugnuts are not tighten the same as the others and is causing a wheel to wobble a little while you drive. Easy to check.

From 0-7mph, it's not going to be loose lug nuts. That would get worse as speed increased, not go away. Same with wheel bearings, bad tires, improper inflation, alignment, and most other things that cause vibration. The fact that it is more pronounced after driving for a while is probably the only way you're going to identify this. Find all the things that expand/contract when the car warms up.

Is the vibration in the steering wheel? Gas pedal? Does the whole car shake? I don't think it would be motor mounts as someone said because a busted or worn out motor mount would get worse under hard acceleration, not be apparent only under light throttle. It's definitely not normal, I have an AWD and get a tiny bit of 60+mph shake, but nothing else.

I think a truck would always have some sort of vibration no matter what.

On a more serious note, is the car new to you? Did you had this issue in the past that started to progress from a slight vibration to a more noticeable level? There is a thread here somewhere where a bolt underneath the steering column that is accessed by removing the skid plate can be adjusted to minimize or correct steering vibration.

The steering wheel shake from 60+mps is in many cases inherent to after market wheels. Some can be corrected with balancing the wheels or installing hubcentric rings. Do you have OEM or aftermarket wheels?

ive replaced more motor mounts on my fx than any other car. I can tell you this if u have a busted motor mount you will feel it no matter what. Yes under hard acceleration you might hear clunk thump noise. But under normal acceleration you will feel a shake

He never said the vibration goes away. Checking the lug nuts is a simple task compared to replacing a motor mount. Always start with the simple problems first and work your way up.

have ur tires roadforced and re balanced... you could have separated belts or flat spots on your tires that are causing your problem... thats just a suggestion

sorry for being mia. But the vibration goes away after 7mph. I checked the tire pressure and they were good. Also to note the vibration is felt through out the car. Took the car into the dealer and wasted 120 because they did a diagnostic on it and found nothing. But I know i am not insane the shake is there.

Well, did you have your oil changed recently? I heard if too much oil is added to crankcase that the FX45 will shudder when it first move from a standstill, but I never had that problem so I do not know if it is the problem you have.

Mine just developed the same 1 day before going on vacation last month. I didn't write it down but it's something like a dirty/bad idle intake valve or called something like that. They diagnosed it right away but I didn't have time to have it fixed.

Once in a blue moon this low speed minor shuddering can be the result of a minor exhaust leak but most likely it's the other idle intake valve or whatever it's called.

It will lightly shudder when accelerating from 1 to about 8 mph and nowhere else. Perhaps a replacement throttle body will resolve the issue. Funny enough it's not every time. I think when the car is quite warmed up, it seems to go away as it did during my 1800 mile journey.

Some common causes of entire car shake specially at idle or low speed are:
1) Misfire in one or more cylinders, but that always comes with a MIL which I assume you don't have because you did not mention.
2) Clogged up catalytic converter, which usually causes misfire with fuel cut off anyway.
3) Another reason but not as severe as the first one is when loose item in the car that has a natural frequency matches that of the engine at that low speed. I remember once the window of my driver door used to rattle right around 800 to 900 rpm, I found that the fixing bolts were loose so I tightened them up and no more rattling.

lot's of stabbing ... did i miss ... the year / miles? if older vehicle, transmission shudder on take off ... 60 mph vibration usually tires, doesn't always show up on the machine, depends on tires, could be the belts shifting ... i have a motto at work, for that matter, in life ... it's the little i ... as in info, so need all the info

My 05 is doing the same thing. It's a rattle right before it switches to 2nd gear and sometimes right before 3rd gear. You actually hear it in the exhaust. If I accelerate quickly there is no rattle. Did you ever figure out what the problem was?
