7speed auto ....trans fluid change?

Howdy fellows......my first post, my first Infiniti. Purchased a beautiful 2009 FX35. After 8 years in a Murano this is a major step up for me. The 7 speed auto is more fun than should be allowed...especially the paddle shifter. My question is.....what are the service requirements? My manual says service trans every 30K but not 7 speed auto. I am confused.

It says that maintenance is not required but that isn't true. All fluids break down after constant use. They say the transmission is maintenance free because it's a sealed unit. But the truth is there is a drain and fill port under the car attached to the tranny. It requires a fill pump as stated by this bulletin:

ITB10012

  • SERVICE INFORMATION When filling up, checking the ATF level, or if the pan of a RE7R01 series 7 speed automatic transmission has been drained or removed, a special tool must be used. This special tool is the "Transmission Fill Pump", J-49829. For proper use of this tool, go to SERVICE PROCEDURE starting on Page 2. CAUTION: Fill the Transmission Fill Pump with new Nissan Matic S ATF only. Never fill with any other fluid. See this bulletin for further detail.

It may not say to service the transmission in the owners manual. But in the factory service manual it's listed under periodic maintenance still.

Be prepared to pay a crap load of money for this service. When I had mine flushed on my 09 FX I pad around $350 I believe for the service. Make sure to tell the dealer to use Nissan Matic S fluid only and nothing else!

By the way how many miles do you have? You can get this done anytime between 30K-50K.

Wendle Infiniti quoted: trans service @ $199.00, coolent flush @ $134.00, 4X4 service @ $199.00, P.S. service @109.00..........is this reasonable?

If your paying $199 for a trans service that means their not using matic S fluid. Their doing to you what they tried to do to me and that is trying to sell you their BG fluid service. A transmission fluid service with matic S fluid is alot more expensive.

Power steering fluid service don't pay for it. Waste of money imo. Just do the 4x4 service (transfer and front and rear diffs), coolant flush, and tranny service.

tranny service for $199 is incorrect and if they are not aware then they are doing it with the wrong fluid. As Aaron said, it should be around $350....$320 somewhere in that range.

I just did a transmission fluid change not the flush on the 2010 FX 35. Let me tell you it is a B***. You need a special pump to refill the transmission fluid and its 5 QTs of it and used Matic S fluid

If you do a drain a fill your not getting all the fluid out. Best to just pay the dealer for a flush.

Matic S costs around $10-$14 a quart

Just curious how did you keep an eye out on the transmission fluid temps during the fluid change if you dont have a consult machine to check that?

I got the matic s at $8.15 per qt at West Covina Nissan in california.

All I did was drain and replace the same amount of oil that came out which was 5 qt.

Just my opinion but I would of let the dealer replace the fluid. These transmissions cost upwards of $8K if you screw them up. Infiniti already recommends not touching the fluid. Im just bringing this up because I noticed you been making alot of threads about mistakes on other fluid changes you have done.

Yes listen to fireonic DO NOT change fluids yourself have a dealer or certified tech do them. Not worth it to do it yourself.

I never said dont change them yourself. I would do all other fluids except transmission fluid myself. Especially with all the software issues these transmissions have I wouldnt even think of touching the trans fluid myself under warranty. If your familiar with dealer service you know they always try to find a way to blame the customer.
