GTspec strut bar hood contact 06 fx35

Totally!! Those tight turns now I feel like I actually can corner them with more control, the whole car just feels solid!:) And I used to have this weird "noise" coming from the front, since I put STB on, it magically disappeared, makes me happy :)

:)
all you need now is coilovers (best mods so far stb and coils)

Coils are on my list but that will probably have to wait till later this year. Maybe will be a Xmas gift to myself :).

lol, i had H&r's and still couldnt resist so i went ahead and bought it.

Also on the nuts, i remember the first time i had trouble too, i remember using a deep socket and 3/8 short ratchet and had a HARD time loosening it. So i went ahead and used 1/2 breaker bar with a short 14mm socket and with some wd-40 came off like butter :smile (2):

Also using a long extension on the breaker bar or on a ratchet helps humongously

Thanks everyone for the pictures and feedback.
Anyone else notice that their hood is misaligned after installation? Mine is definitely raised on the passengers side. which I think is the biggest reason I am unhappy about the bar.

Also is there another bar that is less tall? I know the stillen one is supposed to have had more issues than these.

As far as coilovers Is there another thread that goes over the available choices? I like the idea of better handling, but dont want to luse the ability to use the fx as a sport utility in snow and dirt roads.

for coils stick with bc, search it. Well coils you can raise and lower it for snow/off road and everyday driving

Looked at mine this afternoon and I have minimal touching passenger side and an inch and a half of contact on the drivers side. Don't notice any issues fully closing the hood though.

@raymond: If either the paint being thicker raised the mount slightly or if the paint shop removed and re installed the hood slightly differently, it could cause the impact to increase.

Yeah i know. When i replied to this thread i was on my cell and couldn't see the pics so thought that might be the issue at hand as well.

Do you have pics of the misaligned hood? The bar would have to be really, really far off to lift the hood. The insulation has a decent amount of give in it so the bar would have to be misaligned more than that. I have a Stillen bar and it touches the insulation on both sides because of the raised design, but no issues with hood alignment. There are just 2 black marks on the bar from the insulation rubbing.

And I wouldn't put too much faith in GT Spec, they literally stock nothing. They don't even stock replacement hardware kits for their braces and won't order them unless you make a bulk purchase. They just resell Summit Racing (Taiwanese) bars and braces. Other than being the exclusive US distributor and preventing us from buying Summit Racing products directly, they don't do anything. Everything is made overseas, and they order in bulk. So unless they hit their minimum of 5 pieces or whatever, they won't order it and they'll have no brackets to test. I was told that their hardware kits were on indefinite back order since there wasn't enough demand so they didn't know when they'd get any more. I pieced together the hardware kit from Home Depot and the internet...So if they're unwilling to do something that simple, I doubt they'll try to actually fabricate a better bracket. They don't care about FX sales, they're onto the BRZ/FRS these days.

Pictures are in post 1. It indents the foam, but there is a clip right at the contact point that I think is the main culprit. It only raises by a few mm, but it looks bad, and I am concerned what will happen if I hit a pothole or something.
It may be that the paint is too thick, probably from them painting over the summit color... Lol
I should have picked up stuff from summit during my layover there a few months ago. I know people in Taiwan, but I am guessing that shipping is going to make buying stuff that way prohibitive.

If I was to Dremel down the top a few mm I think it would fix the offset.
Or I guess the other way would be to sand the whole thing down and use thinner paint on the bottom.

How is the hood line when closed? Is it even with fender or recessed? If you're within mm of having this work, it should be pretty simple to fix. Either modify hood liner, adjust hood mounting, or grind the bracket down some.
