Iphone 4s with bluetooth not ringing in car, any ideas?

We have been having an ongoing problem with our bluetooth in our '08 FX 35. When we get a call, the phone is silent and it doesn't ring in the car either. If we are paying attention, is shows on the nav screen, but not always. Last night my wife just got a new iPhone 4S and it is having the same problem. Before she had an iPhone 3GS and it was doing same thing. Any ideas or fixes out there?

Thanks!

While in park, press the car call button and say "set up". After the voice prompt say "ring tone" and select the desired tone. If this does not work, completely switch off the phone and try re setting up the pairing device all over again. Good luck.

Thanks, but I have done this hundreds of times over the past years and only have heard it ring like 3 times. Bowever the problem is with apple. If I pair an android phone it always works fine and sounds from the same phone ring. Don't know why

It is possible. This is the reason why I choose to use my Nokia and Samsung for the longest time in the past because it allows instant pairing and connectivity with the car. I had similar issues with the older version iPhone in the past. So far no issues yet with my iPhone5.

Had iPhone 3GS with no problem. Now have iPhone 5 with no problem. Folks, it isn't an Apple problem - it's your setup. Not being a smartass here - I'm an engineer and know what I'm saying. Bluetooth is a 3rd party vendor. Apple just incorporates it, just like the Android phones do. Look for another answer. Have you read your owners manual and done all the steps in order? Just sayin...

Hi. You mean my phone setup or FX setup? I have followed the same procedure with the iphone and android. What configuration do you have?

Make sure you have "Use Vehicle Ringtone" selected, as well as a value selected for "Ringtone Volume". If you're properly paired and the Bluetooth works (can hear and talk) and you have these settings done, there is no logical reason the ringer shouldn't work. I've used iPhone 3GS and 5 in 2007M, 2008M and 2011FX with no problem ever encountered. You can also swing by a dealer and let them take a look. Good luck with this.

Hi. Thanks. I went to the dealer and they have no idea. After they tested it several times with different phones, they said that should be somthing with the iphone. Obviously it must be something in the software of the radio. I can talk perfectly. I can make and receive calls. But the only way to lnow someone is calling is looking at the display or hear my phone vibrating. I have also reset all setings on the iphone

You say "feel it vibrating". Does this only happen when you have the ringer turned off on the phone and it's on "vibrate only"? Make sure you have the phone ringer on as well the vehicle ringer. We're going to figure this out. Shame I'm retired - I used to travel to PR with GE.

That is the most weird, both (FX and phone) have the ringer activated, ringtone chosen and at high volume. I have set my phone to always vibrate and sound. Nice to know you visit us here :). By the way thank you for the help you are bringing us here

You are not alone. I have the same issue with my 2008 FX35 and iPhone.

First I had the 4s and it never rang in the car...actually it rang once on 2 different occasions! Could never figure out how/why it did.

Upgraded to the 5 and still the same issue... Tried all kinds of configurations in the vehicle with no luck. Called Infiniti care when I first got truck last year....no help....oh well

You can see my frustrations in this thread from 2011

I know this is kind of an old post, but I was having this exact same problem in my 2008 FX35 Tech Package since I changed from the iPhone 3gs all the way through the iPhone 5, I did not have the problem with my older iPhone 1st gen or the iPhone 3g. Anyway I have finally figured out what was going out and have been able to fix it with a little tweak in the phone.

For this tweak to work the phone has to be jailbroken, I have installed a package through Cydia called "Bluetooth Service Manager", this will install an app in your phone called "BT Services" that will let you enable/disable bluetooth services such as A2DP, handsfree, remote, gaming... on your phone, I thought the problem was that the phone was trying to send its own ringtone through A2DP which the Bluetooth on our cars don't have active, in fact from time to time but only a very few times, the phone ringtone could be heard over the car speakers in a call. Anyway if you enter this app and deactivate the A2DP service, the default car ring will sound with ALL incoming calls, it will still take two or three rings to sound, you will hear it at the same time that the car screen shows PHONE, but as said you'll be able to hear the incoming calls.

Once you deactivate the A2DP service and hit the home button on your phone you will see that the Bluetooth disconnects, you'll have to go to Preferencies>Bluetooth and hit the Bluetooth Handsfree again to make the connection with the car again the first time. After that and if you don't reboot your phone it'll stay with the A2DP service disconnected, if the phone runs out of battery or if you reboot your phone you'll have to run this procedure again.
