Akebono BBK Install on FX35

What? I've been reading that the Akebonos should bolt right up to the 09+ FX35 rotors..are you saying that's not correct?

Here what I found in my research. The Hub/Knuckle are the same, which means the caliper will bolt right on. But the rotors are different. The OEM 35 front rotor is 12.6", and the rotors paired for the Akebomo's are 14".

Front
40206-CL70A 2010 FX35 Base Right Rotor
40206-JL00A 2010 FX50 Base Right Rotor
40202-EJ70B 2010 FX35 Base Right Hub & bearing
40202-EJ70B 2010 FX50 Base Right Hub & bearing

Thanks for the info. Do you know what rear rotors are compatible? I bought a kit from Concept Z Performance. The fronts were straight forward bolt-on. The rear rotors did not fit.:eek.:

Thanks

front rotors - compatible
front calipers/pads - compatible
rear calipers/pads - compatible
rear rotors - NOT due to parking brake[/QUOTE]

You'll need the "FX50 REAR ROTORS". Trimming the rear blacking plate is also required.

here's a nice deal for aftermarket cross-drilled & slotted rotors with pads:

OR just the ROTORS alone:

good luck.

Bring this old post back because I am collecting parts to do this mod soon
I already bought G37S calipers F+R, FX50 brake hoses F+R (I know my FX35 brake line will fit with modification but I want to keep them original):good:
going to buy FX50 F+R rotors when I find a place with a set slotted or cross drilled with good shipping rate to Canada, so far all the place I found they all want $400 shipping of the 4 rotors to Canada:bad: I may have to get them to FREE SHIPPING to a USA storage warehouse and pick it up during my winter vacation soon.:smile (2):
my only questions are
how thick of a spacer do I need to run OEM 18" wheel in the winter (I have 2 sets of 18" OEM wheel from a 2009 FX35 and 2005 FX35)?
I hope my summer wheel is 20" offset 35 clear the BBK just fine
do I need front spacer only or both front and rear? If both F+R need spacer then how thick do they need?

I have stock 20's on my 2009 FX35 with 25mm spacers. I just installed an Infiniti BBK with slotted and drilled Stop Tech Rotors F and R. No problems with clearance. I had the spacers first. It looks like the rear would have fit without the spacer, but it looks better with the tire pushed out to the fender lip.

you have 25mm spacer for both front + rear?
I hope your stock 20' rim is the same offset and spoke design as my stock 18' rim so with 25mm spacer my 18' rim would clear the Infiniti BBK
what brand of spacer should I get? Ichiba V1 or V2? or H&R?

Nice job! I'm tackling this right now but what I'm trying to figure out is the backing plates. I see they were noted as "optional" but if they are optional, do you still need to modify/cut/alter the existing ones? Photos would be great but an explanation would do, just need to know what direction to head towards...

New ones are optional, but I believe you need to trim the rear backing plates on your car already. New rotors are bigger in diameter and the shield has a lip on it I believe. The metal is pretty thin so cutting should be quick. You shouldn't have to remove the entire thing, just enough so the new rotor can fit. You'll have a miniscule higher chance of jamming a rock into the caliper, but that's not a big worry.

Thanks for the info though my fronts have a lip on the top as well..Looking at the diagrams for all the front brake shields for the 2nd gen, there appears to be three variations of the shield that work with the normal caliper and the Akebono.

One of the shields is the typical round shield with the top curved lip, the second shield looks like a plus sign and the third is another round variation, probably bigger, can't tell by diagrams alone.

When I do my conversion, I'm going to take lots of photos for you guys that way we'll have this figured out from every angle. I'll be test fitting rotors tomorrow on my current shields and post back :)

FYI, there's really no need for the shields unless you're off roading and kicking up small rocks into your wheel well area. I've had my rear shields off for a year now with no issues whatsoever.
