Can someone clarify this for me lease, because my car go broken into last night. But no sign of forced entrance. That led Me to this thread either when I walked out of the car last night I didn't lock it and it doesn't lock by it self or they found my valet key with the remote control that I lost 2 days ago. I need your input before I go spend 1000 in deductible so I can getting car rekeying and reprogrammed. Weirdest thing is I don't notice anything missing just everything all over the place and all comparments open. Which has me worried.

Not to mention this is the second time about 2 weeks ago they tried to break in and they popped off the cap that goes over the keyhole but that was it I was lucky I found the plastic right in front of the car. And I found the rubber liner between the doors pushed it.

So what u guys think try found my valet key or I forgot to lock the car and it doesn't lock.
I have a 2003 AWD FX35

Since the FX will not lock itself without an aftermarket alarm, I'm betting they found your lost key. I would get a new set for peace of mind.

Fcukkkkk see I'm confused first guy said the car doesn't lock it self , but then 3rd post says his car locks free 1min.And no no broken windows it was not a forced entry at all. If they did find my key can a lock smith do the work? Would it be cheaper then my geico insurance shop having t drop 1000 deductible

I'd get it re-keyed for the peace of mind.

Check your owners manual. Mine clearly states that after a min, the car locks itself. It CAN BE DISABLED though. Maybe yours is. Just enable it per the manual instructions.

I wouldn't replace ALL the locks just for this, what I would do is take it to the dealer and have them force the missing key out of the programming, bring all the keys you have for it and tell them to force the old keys out, then they can never drive the fx away even with your old keys... can they still get in? yeah, but honestly anyone wth a screwdriver and half a brain can do that so I wouldn't spend over a grand just for that...

They definitely don't just lock themselves out of the blue. However, if you accidentally hit unlock in your pocket, for example, and never open the door, the car will automatically relock after about a minute.

I wouldn't be surprised if you forgot to lock it. I do that every now and then for whatever reason. I'll come back out to my car somewhere and realize it's been unlocked the whole time, sometimes even overnight. It's certainly possible these guys were just walking the street and could look in your window and see that it's unlocked.

First gen only has auto RElock. Not sure if second gen has the auto lock feature.

I'm with Stu. I forget to lock mine at times too. Eeeek!

What stu said. It will only lock itself if the door was unlocked via remote but the one of the doors were actually opened.

Locking automatically.

I thought the car only locks automatically if you've unlocked the doors, but didn't open it.

If you open the doors, the auto-lock feature turns off.
But if you were to unlock the car using the keyfob, but went back inside, after 1 min (or whatever your settings are on) the car will lock itself.

EDIT: I'm an IDIOT. Just read Stu's post -______- lol

YUP thats what STU was saying in different words :wink (2):

Ok In simpler words from what I understand if I turn off my car walk away with out pressing lock on the remote the doors will stay open?
But then there is a auto lock option u can unable and disable? How u do that? Maybe I disabled it when I did a reprogramming when I bought a new remote for the extra key I had being the valet key that got lost

Dealer is prolly got charge at least 1000 for that they'd have to rekey cylinders and reprogram remotes

It's unlikely theyll break into your car again if they didn't find anything of value the first time. Also it's very unlikely they found the remote, I bet they just noticed/tried the doors and they opened so what the heck, why not screw someone's day. I honestly wouldn't worry about rekeying the whole car unless you're sure they have the remote and there is a possibility of them stealing the car at a later date

my fx was broken into lastnight also, window broken and everything.it was in the bronx

If you turn off your car and walk away without pressing lock on the remote, the doors WILL stay open. There is no OEM option that changes this for the first gen. The option we are talking about is an auto RElock. When the fx is already parked and locked, pressing the unlock button on the remote and then not opening a door will trigger the fx to RElock itself automatically.

There are aftermarket option that will lock your fx for you after driving off or if you forget to lock it yourself. Either an afteermarket alarm system or the kp module.

2 fx's broken into. Sorry to hear that guys. If the thief wants it bad enough I guess they will get it. Nothing is safe these days. Try getting an alarm put in.
