oil drain plug

First of all i apologize for asking a question that is covered a lot of times. I just could not find a straight answer tho.
I always had german cars so bear with me, I am about to do the first oil change and i lie to use the mobil 1 full synthetic oil and filter. Can someone help with the correct oil and filter number?
Also why do we need a oil drain plug? we need a new one every oil change? I have never used this before.
Thank you

Most of us use 5W-30 and the filter for FX35 RWD is M1-108. You don't need a new oil drain plug, but you could use a new drain crush ring everytime though. It's not necessary though.

That's right a crush ring is called for each time, not the drain plug. I have not been replacing that ring each time I change my oil and its been fine. No leaky :smile (2):

a crush ring , Is this something that i can buy at any auto parts store? where is this exactly located? and last question, how much oil do i need?
Than you very much guys

According to the owners manual, FX35 (VQ) engine takes 5 quarts. Crush ring can be found at your local auto parts store.

Couldn't a washer suffice in place of the crush ring? The magnetic oil drain plugs I got for us came with washers. Aren't those supposed to replace the crush rings? Essentially its the same thing.

the person that i bought the car did all the services of oil changes every 3k miles at the dealer which im assuming is regular non synthetic oil. If i go and switch to 5w -30 mobil 1, full synthetic how is that going to affect the engine?

Haven't changed the plug in all the times I did an oil change, but I use a new crush washer each time. I picked up a pack from a Nissan dealer and keep it in the toolbox in my cargo area.

once you switch to syntethic you cant go back to regular, after syntethic oil do 5k oil changes. I have about 80k and never changed the crush washer

You are poorly informed.

You can go back and fourth between dino and syn. They both do their job well. Show me proof. I've done a lot of combo out there, dino 5w30 10w30 and syn 5w40 5w30 10w30.

You should use any syn oil between 7.5 to 15k. Nissan uses dino oil at the recommended 3750 miles, but you can go past that easily. The technology advances now allow up to do extended oil change intervals. All euro cars recommend you do 10-15k oil changes on syn.

A crush washer is designed for a one time use, however you might be able to reuse but its not recommended. The washer forms a seal around the plug and pan. Some will never leak without one and some will always leak.

I currently run Mobil 1 syn plan on going at least 5000 miles. 7500 is even okay in my opinion. It would be a good idea to replace the crush ring everytime as Turtle pointed out, it forms a seal around the plug and pan. I think it's a good idea for the piece of mind and plus they are very inexpensive. One time at the dealer, I asked for some and the service guy gave me three for free. I also just ordered a pack of five on eBay for $4 shipped.

I totally agree with Peter (Turtleg) said, you can switch back to regular oil after using synthetic. I done that to my other cars and it running fine. No sign or noise at all when switching. I have been lucky with not having a leak as I hardly change the crush washer when I change my oil. :smile (2):

Back in the days when Mobil-1 Synthetic were $7.99 a quart and Penzoil was $1.99 on a college student budget :smile (2):

Question is: Why would you even go back to conventional oil after using synthetic? :confused.:

sales/deals and what I have on hand.

When I was at the dealership I got unlimited 5w40 euro spec castrol syntec and bg44k injection cleaner. So I have a good stash of that. I pick up oil deals when I see them because I do a lot of family and friend's oil change ( been cutting back now ) so my supply level gets low. But they have normal eco boxes hence why I have more dino oil.

If I had to pick I would go with castrol gtx dino 5w30 @5.5k intervals. Vq35de are a lot harder on oils then your typical engine, compare UOAs to other v6 motors with same miles.

VW/Audi almost always needs a crush washer. Not so much with Nissan's but I've seen them all leak. It might not be much but its there. For under a dollar its just good insurance

Yeah, I figured money was the biggest factor in determining that switch. To me its like eating fresh, home cooked meals, then going back to eating TV dinners every night. :hahaha:

Mainly so, Some motors do run louder at startup with X oil and some were more prone to oil burning.

I could tell you that about 85% of the people who came in at VW for oil consumption ran mobil 1 syn. When they swapped over to another, it either slowed it down to an acceptable level or was gone completely. But the 1.8T were prone to sludging and etc. My brother's maxima with a VQ30 ( i was the owner back then) had a louder startup with the 5w40 syntec but my g35 is just normal.

Found my oil sample on 3900 miles with GTX and the guys at blackstone told me to go longer.
