How long did your stock brakes last

Stay away from drilled and slotted. For the driving we do, it wont serve us any good, plus you loose braking surface. Go with good pads and blank treated rotors. Do a quick google search on cross drilled rotors truth. Crazy the hype of cross drilled vs function.

id personally just stick with slotted discs. thats what my mechanic recommended. i felt the same. i have drilled and slotted with hawk pads and it was amazing brakes when new, after that meh. rusty as crap. the discs only lasted 20000km

That's what I've been thinking. I just like the look of cross-drilled but I'm realizing its not really worth it after cleaning up the excessive brake dust and looking at how rusty their getting. Should I go with OEM or an aftermarket company. I just don't want to get any squealing. I priced out a full set of OEM brakes on OrderInfinitiparts.com and it came out to $468.39 for everything (I'm pretty sure I added everything) Here's the link if it works https://www.orderinfinitiparts.com/memberservices/index.cfm?action=cart_login&storefrontShippingMethodid_0=15768&siteid=215003&redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eorderinfinitiparts%2Ecom%2Fshoppingcart%2Findex%2Ecfm%3Faction%3Dcheckout%26siteid%3D215003&storefrontWarrantyShipping=0|

I prefer the cross-drilled look but worried that if I get them I'll just end up where I am now after another 30k miles.

Decisions decisions......

I went and bought R1s top of the line drilled and slotted all around. Miles later(nowhere near what you would get out of oem) these brakes suck. They chew up your pads. Tons of break dust. Surface glazes faster. Pretty much i fooled myself into thinking "yea drilled/slotted rotors are the best". After hours of reading and searching, they are not good for driving habbits. Only thing going for these rotors is looks.

Do yourself a huge favor get good treated blanks. Like Centric premiums, Bendix, powerstop, if you can find blank brembos.

My pads are halfway done and my brakes stop but you can feel the fade when you brake. 8k miles later and they feel like crap. No good in my book. I also have that rusty nasty look to. But all rotors rust.

Thanks, I'm either going with the Centric Premiums from TireRack.com which is $375 for the set (not including shipping) or I've been looking for the Brembo Blanks but I can't seem to find any.
Also what would you recommend for brake pads? There is a lot to choose from. I'd like something that will stop good but not create a lot of brake dust. I have the Akebono ProACT Ceramic pads in my cart on TireRack's website.

As for brake pads go with the Akebono ACT905 & Akebono ACT888. I don't remember which are fronts or rears but the smaller pads go on the rear. I did my brakes a month and half ago. I don't have any issue with brake dust on the rims its very mild build up. Its a real easy job depending on your rotors. My rotors were still in spec so all I had to do was remove the reservoir cap from the master cylinder and get a c-clamp to push the piston in the caliber back in slowly this way you will have room to put the pads back in the caliber.the main key to keeping your brakes From squealing is too use those little packets of Lube. You can get the packets at any parts store and apply the lube to the back of the pad and the metal bracket that goes on the pad itself. Do these for each pad (8) for the the best deal go to amazon I'm got front and rear with free two day shipping for $115.. Hope this helps out and other question pm me. I'll be more then glad to help ya out. Oh also if your not sure about your rotors go to any shop to have them checked out. Just tell the shop your brakes feel funny. Most shops will do it for free when they come back will there results They will tell you if your rotors are in spec or not. Measuring the the rotors is called Miking

I have the premium drilled R1 concept rotors and love them. I have the akebono top pads that Andy recommended (forgot the name now) and they are good. The only thing I'm not too thrilled about is when it's very cold, they squeak right in the morning more than the OEM did but after I back out of the driveway the squeaks stop. Again this is what happens though with high performance brakes.

I am very happen with my decision over OEM. I wouldn't go back. I love the looks and the performance it provides especially when it's wet, snow, etc. And I don't know why you have a rust problem because I don't recall noticing that a single time, but I know they treat the premium r1 concept drilled. The drilled are nice by the way, not drilled and that is it, but angled at the edge so it's almost like a slot but it's drilled. Again, I love them. When I need new brakes, I'm getting the same ones, including rotors in case I ever need them again but probably won't for years.

I'm gona rip out these drilled out rotors and put good blanks in. Just put Bendix CT3 pads and Bendix rotors on my dads car. Car stops great. I'm leaning towards Bendix pads with Centric Premium coated blank rotors.

From my experience, the Akebono ProAct Ceramic pads are the most dustless I have used.

That's what I have! Thanks Andy.

The Akebono ProAct Ceramic pads with the Rc1 Concept premium drilled rotors is a great combination for looks and braking power.

Thanks for the input. ACT888 are the fronts and ACT905 are the rears. I'll probably end up going with these since I don't want anything too crazy on the brake dust. I pretty much want to go back to the stock setup.
I'll be sure to get the lube that goes on back of the brake pads. I used a grease on my previous set and it made a mess. I plan on using CRC Disc Brake quiet next time http://www.crcindustries.com/ei/product_detail.aspx?id=05016

I have a rust problem because all I got was the E-line series and not the premium ones. The coating on them probably isn't applied as much as the premiums.

I'll check that out, thanks

Hes right on that one.
I almost ordered the Centric Premium Rotors with the Akebono pads until I checked out Amazon and its over $110 cheaper going through Amazon. Nothing against TireRack.com but I like saving money. I'll order these up now along with some brake quiet and caliper lube.
Wish I could dish out the money for the Akebono BBK but have other priorities.

Is it true that slotted rotors can't be turned/re-surfaced?

Personally, I want to get slotted rotors. Not a fan of drilled, since they can crack.

Did you look into picking up the Akebono kit used for cheap? So many vehicles use it that they are much easier to find now. I think it's a simple bolt on for you more or less, as opposed to the 1st gens needing retrofit parts and stuff. You could do some pricing and figure out what a new set of Akebono compatible rotors and pads are, and just get the calipers, or go for a whole set slightly used as well.

Its funny whenever I see your name I think of Family Guy, hope none offense is taken lol.
I don't think slotted rotors can be turned but I'm not 100% sure on that one.

I have been looking everywhere for a used set, actually found one in NY on craigslist but he had sold the fronts. I would love a new set and seen them on eBay for around $900 but I don't want to go spending that much.
If I could pick a set up for no more than $500 I would probably do it but I'm not sure if they will clear the stock 18's. I run them during the winter with the Blizzak's.
They are pretty much a bolt on setup besides the rear backing plate but that could just be trimmed.

You can turn slotted rotors, just have to be more careful while doing it. And I guess you can't machine them as much since the slots aren't that deep.
