Audi LED mirror indicator retrofit.

Thanks ill try the continuity tester. I was thinking the wire shield got ripped too. It's doing it on both left and right mirrors. Unless, if the wires got crimped somewhere, would that cause a short? There's not a lot of room to play. But ill pull all the wire out again and see if I see a tear to where the copper is exposed.
Yeah, there are almost no room in there. I would just continuity test each wire to body ground before going through the trouble of snake the wire through again. A kinked and crimped should not do that unless they're so bad the stands crossed internally. Kinda unusual for both wires though.

Great DIY. Thanks for your help.. yep, it was a pinched cable. Finally finished :bulgy-eyes:. thanks to whoever found those driver/passenger wires too. la_fx, i posted pics in the other thread

You're welcome. Glad it was just a pinched cable. Now you can enjoy your new mirrors and a bottle of beer or all six lol!!;)

@GetLuckiFX: I bought the A4 indicators, but they did not come with connectors.

How did you connect the wires to the 2 pins on the indicator?

Cheers,
Ramon

Ramon, I actually made my own connector, bought the connectors at Autozone, and then using a glue gun I filled in the plug to seal the opening.

I know it's an old thread, but i was digging through for mod ideas and i think this came out great! Thanks for the write up, the Q5 lights might be in my FX's future. I saw that you updated to S60 lights.. i like those too!

Thanks. Back then there weren't that many LED turn signals that looked good, most were still on the "fat" side. And we all learn from out mistakes ;)

I went with Volvo turn signal because it was cheaper to replace my broken Audi one, they kind of fit the overall design of FX better IMO, I like how they only bulge up at the end of the mirror, are much brighter than Audi too and required zero bending and heating up to fit in.

Looking Good....!! So these fit even beter i understand...?? Like the look. You probably made some for others and due the the wrapping you can try new things better. I'm not going to repaint them . Honestly glad i'm done with the whole paint shizzle haha. But props for taking this to the next level. You should post some pics here FOI ( For Others Info ) haha. Keep the modding alive....:good::iS:

Thanks, I need to take new pics after I rewrap the mirrors. I actually lowered the signals a bit and made it cleaner. I was thinking of repainting them, I have extra paint just sitting in my garage, but the CF just seems to blend in better with the black door trim.
And yes they are 99.7% perfect fit. When I ordered them on line, I have not seen them on a Volvo prior to ordering, I just liked the design and was expecting to go through the same nonsense of bending and heating them like with Audi ones. To my surprise I didn't have to do any of that. Just reshape the mirror cover and cover the opening left from Audi lights.
But I'm with you on being done with the whole process.
The only thing I am keeping my fingers crossed is the front bumper and rest is just small mods here and there.
:)

I really like these, but I like the volvo ones more. Would it be possible to wrap those up in real CF, not vinyl?

Thanks. Yes you can use real CF to wrap the mirror covers, it all depends on the application and taking time to mold it, just like with vinyl. Real CF might be a bit thicker but other than that it should be fine.

So the volvo lights are cheaper and brighter!? I might go that route instead lol. Thanks again for the good ideas!

Edit; And yeah somehow i accidentally ended up in his garage (forum) and that is where i saw the volvo lights. Your engine cover also inspired me to attempt making a CF cover for mine. I also like what you did with the "Angel eye" in the reverse lights, do you happen to have a write up for that? Mainly curious where you got that little LED circle.

Yup, you get both for a price of one Audi and it's less work retrofitting them. The Audi looses slightly it's brightness, due to bending them outward to fit the angle of our mirror covers, so the light distribution gets slightly compromised. Plus Volvo's end tips flare out and create that nice bright tip.

Hey Buddy,

Do you by any chance have a part number of the new S60 lights. I have a client who wants them in his FX. Better to do the S60's for him then then the Audi's ;-)
