Antifreeze may be leaking?

It's my daily...almost 50 miles a day. Chicago trips sometimes. Road trips, vacation trips...you know...things that us guys like Wayne, Ian, and I like to do. :)

Why don't you put on another 300 or whatever miles and head up to visit me since you need more. hehe

although I've been saying 60k for awhile now too...I think I'm at 58k or something but 60 is a big # b/c of the warranty.

Have you decided about that extended warranty?

I've bought it before on a car that gave me trouble all the time. I was slightly short of making that money up with that kind of car. I told myself I would never fall for that again. I've also worked in industries 10+ years ago regarding various warranties. So many companies have done statistical analysis on the profits of these are they are astronomical. Why do you think that you get letters in the mail asking/recommending to renew your warranty? Because there is strong statistical showings that (and I'm just making up numbers here just to prove the point since I don't know what the figures at Nissan are), for example if the extended warranty is $2500 and they average out to $750. I say $750 in this case because the standard is some where in the ball park of 30% or less...meaning when they sell you this they are making 70% pure profit. It's a HUGE gain...more than selling a car, more than selling any kind of product, etc. That's why it's so big and such a big push for it. The slogan in that world is you've just sold somebody paper for 70% profit. Been there on both sides. I don't do it anymore because I know that statistics behind that and I've always been about probability.

Now I have a car that statistically is one of the most reliable. IMO, I'd be nuts to take that bet. In life, it's all about taking your chances at the right times.

Plus, when I bought the car the Infiniti dealership sold it to me with an Infiniti certified warranty that is 100k miles, but that only covers engine, trans, etc. They basically said I would be covered 100% for everything similar to a base FX...so like nav, tech, etc would not be covered. If I bought this, it's almost like that didn't even matter at all, but it does.

Plus the other thing you have to be conceded with is stuff that doesn't get covered anymore because of mods. Sometimes I wait until out of warranty to start doing mods like remote start, alarm, exhaust, etc because then at that point it's yours no matter what....if someone screws up an electronic install even under an extended warranty you'd still be screwed in general.

You have a good point here, but what will you do when things like software updates come out and what not? Just pay the price?

You find out if you really need them and if you do then get them. So then you are out $200 or whatever not almost $2,500 or whatever the cost is. I never did on my previous car...but I also wasn't on the forum all the time finding out the day it was released.

I'm just saying the statistics should be around 30% or less and I would think since it's Infiniti that can keep that cost high for the luxury brand like BMW, etc but keep the service rate % low....I'm almost willing to bet their ROI is > 90% on selling this warranty "paper".

I noticed this today where the radiator cap meets the coolant hose. It seems as though some Antifreeze escaped passed the clamps for the coolant hoses. I checked everywhere to see if I see a puddle of antifreeze and there isn't any. None of the parts in the engine bay have antifreeze on it. And I've been keeping an eye out on the coolant level in the reservoir take for the past year after every 3K mile inspection I do myself just to make sure filters are clean and all fluids are at their proper level when warm. And the coolant level has been at the same level it always has this past year so nothing suspicious.

I was thinking maybe its normal for a tad bit of coolant to escape past the clamps on the hoses sometime since their under high pressure???

These are not high pressure systems. They operate at 137kpa which is about 19 psi.
My 09 had been leaking a little and running down the hose casting neck, but never enough to hit the ground. So at 35913 miles I took it to the dealer and they replaced the upper hose. It has not leaked yet in 6K miles.
