Your opinions on our 300 watt Bose surround sound system

I think it's a decent system, not the the best but way better than majority of the cars out there. The system lacks bass that's why I hooked up a aftermarket sub and amp. Now with the bass, Im liking it now especially listening to Hip hop, house and electronic music.

I'm trying to updgrade my stereo sound and was recommended that I change the sub and amp first. Could you tell me what you changed? I'm not really well verse in audio components, but I would assume the placement and replacement of the amp and sub should be straight forward. Were you able to keep the aftermarket sub in the same factory location or did you have to use an external housing in the back? Were there any complications with the Bose wiring? Any suggestions and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Not happy with the Bose system at all... It's pretty bad for a vehicle in this price range. My regular 328i had better stock sound by a mile...

I had a relatively inexpensive kicker system in my jeep wrangler and even that blew this Bose system away on every level....

Yeah it's better than any stock regular branded (non luxury) vehicles system but still disappointed. Going to do something about it for sure...

Defjamz what did you do in yours? Can you put up the components you swapped out and what you replaced it with? I'm very picky about sound... Also like bass.

EDIT: never mind saw your thread... Focal speaker w JL sub...

I didn't switch out anything, kept the stock speakers and stock amp. All I did was add a 12 inch sub in a ported box and a aftermarket amp to power the sub. To do this you just need to run power from the Battery to the amp and then just tap into the wiring of the stock Bose sub where the spare tire is at and that's it, fairly simple.

Comparing the 1st and 2nd gen Bose systems...somehow the 1st gen had a more powerful sub...wasn't the sub bigger in the 1st gen?

I actually am liking the stock mids and highs in my 2007 FX. I added a 15 inch subwoofer and a 1200 watt amp and my system sounds great. Before i added the subwoofer i wasn't happy with the stock system cause i would turn the bass up a bit and at higher volumes the speakers would distort and just sound muddy. By adding the subwoofer and amp my bass is set 3 notches down from flat(flat is the middle setting on our bass level) and it sounds amazing. This is coming from a guy who had two 15's and hertz mlk 165's (high end) mids and highs in my old vehicle, so i do know what quality sounds like. Problem with our stock mids and highs is they can't handle bass (as well they shouldn't) but most people turn up the bass and it doesn't sound well. I will more then likely add another amp and change to components up front but for now i am very very happy with the sound i'm getting. Even my friend who is running high end Focal in his FX is shocked how good my system sounds. By adding a aftermarket sub and amp you can turn the bass down on the front stage. I also use a bass knob(remote gain knob)so i use that to add or take away bass

Here's how I understand it. 2 in each door (8), center on dash (1), and two subwoofers. I can't remember where, but I read that the sub unit has two speakers in it.
