Not sure if anyone has made mention to this before but I figured I would post the question and see. A couple days ago, on a particularly cold night, I went to move off from the movie theatre parking lot and came to a stop when my brakes made a grinding/ squeeling / liquid-moving sound. The brakes worked fine with regard to stopping the car and after a mile or two the noise stopped. I don't think the brake pads are low because I just had it in for service 2 days before. Ive scheduled another service appointment but wanted to bounce it off the forum to see if anyone has experienced anything like this and if so, any information would be appreciated. Thanks

My front brake pads are pretty much shot at 41K miles right now. I just changed the back pads and resurfaced the rear rotors at 38K miles. Those wore out way faster than the fronts. Once the Spring time comes I'm going to change the pads and also change the front rotors completely because I've noticed their starting to look slightly warped. I know the braking system has a squeal/grinding alert thing to let you know the pads are getting low. Mine has been doing it alot lately so it doesn't surprise me.
Thanks for the quick response. There is some comfort in knowing that someone else has experienced the same. Hopefully I can get some answers at the dealer as to what exactly the problem is

^You sure the previous owner never had the pads changed? If your at 49K miles on the originals you must do alot of highway driving more than stop and go traffic because that wears the pads out faster.
J, this is the perfect opportunity for your first DIY repair! Pads and rotors are a breeze and you can do them one corner at a time (no crawling under the car).

What your feeling is warped rotors. The beginning phase of them being warped.
I have 29,400 miles on mine and have already had the front pads replaced twice and the front rotors once under warranty. My brakes squeak and squeal non stop and is still doing it but not as worse. It is annoying as HELL!!!!!
This is the fourth Infiniti I have owned and I have NEVER had the issue with noisy brakes on any of them like I have had with this '10 FX. Ridiculous to spend this kind of money on a luxury SUV that sounds like shit whenever you stop. Add to that the rattles inside the car and I am regretting ever buying this thing. Probably won't have it a year from now.
Hate to leave the Infiniti brand but their build quality is not worth shit. They look good and they are fast but that rattle like a tin can, my leather on the driver's seat is wearing thin and now the brakes sound awful. Wishing I had bought something different as I am highly disgusted with the FX. :sad.:

Sorry to hear your going through these problems. Mine doesn't rattle only has like one rattle but fixed it with felt tape. Brakes needing to be replaced for me are understandable since I have 41K miles.
fxellent- well there are couple of things that would cure that squeal and squeal. Disc brake quiet or a type a brake grease behind the pads will eliminate the sound, alsp aroubd the shims and caliper hardware. Seems to me when brake caliper piston head might be making the noise as its pressing down the pads. Also did you bed in your pads/rotors properlly? this helps allot and most of time stops any brake related noise.
Interior rattle is common in sport or stiff cars. You will eventually get rattle in any car, and you can quicken the rattle by installing low profile tires, or aftermarket rims either being heavy or low profile tires.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I bought it new...only had 29 miles on it. The brakes squeak non-stop. I understand if it is cold or whatever but past Infiniti's are fine at warm up. I had a 2005 G35 coupe that had the original back pads on it when I got rid of it after five years. I had only replaced the front pads on that one.
I am not hard on brakes at all even given Dallas traffic. There is the occasional hard brake but not too often. They squeak when the car is warm at any braking at any stop just all the time really. I have complained to the dealer but they never seem to fix it. I am not the foremost authority on cars but I do know that constant brake noise is not normal.
As far as rattles. I have one coming from the cargo area or back seat can't really pin point exactly where it is coming from but is driving me nuts. Had one around glove box area and fixed it. Had a console rattle but fixed it from a write-up on here and my driver's seat will squeak every once in a while when I make a turn.
I know rattles are going to happen but I wouldn't think so soon and the build quality on these things just aren't there anymore. The J30 I had was a very well built car inside and out. The FX all the Chrome trim pieces around all doors are loose and came that way. speaker covers on the inside doors are loose. Little plastic covers that cover the seat belt anchors towards the floor are loose and vibrate. Plastic footwell covers are loose and all of these things same like that when I bought the car. Just a bit frustrated that I basically paid for these problems. Really hate that I have to turn the radio up in a $50K vehicle to avoid hearing this kind of stuff. BUT..I will just have to live with it I suppose. Thanks for letting me vent

I have the same exact problem on my 2011 with 14k miles...I just called the dealer for service...Hopefully I don't have to replace the breaks/rotors and pay out of pocket.
