Ok guys. Need new pads on the FX50S. Figure I'll do pads and slotted rotors. S what do you guys think. I want good pads but they have to work in winter too. Looking at buying 2 sets when I do it up one for the Fx and one for the G

Hawks are great pads when there hot but i have had horrible experience with these in canadian winters, stopping power was greatly reduced until they were warmed up.. Id go with the akebono pads

Can't go wrong with stop tech.

Best I've seen though is dba two piece on eBay.

I run dba two piece rotors in the rear.

Hawk hps is good but can be noisy and cold stoping -- needs to be warmed up.

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a new set of rotors, pads, and brake fluid.

I'm leaning towards these rotors:

and these pads:

Anybody have any thoughts, concerns, recommendations?

These pads seem to be the best overall performance in summer/winter with minimal dust from what I've read. Someone had mentioned EBC reds, but I have been seeing more positive reviews on these pads. Regarding rotors, seems like these are comparable to stoptech, but I seem to like how these look more since they have more drilled holes. And I was thinking the slotted takes a bit away from it, which is why I'm leaning towards drilled only. I think most exotics use drilled many of the times only for the same exact reason. I'd love to hear what you guys think and/or recommend. I realize DBA rotors would probably be the next step up for rotors, but then that would put it above $1k for everything easily and I can't really see myself justifying getting that much more benefit with it that much more in price.

Also, what are your thoughts about if I should get Nissan OEM brake fluid or go for another brand....and how much do I need to cover flushing and filling?

By the way, vendors, feel free to PM on any holiday pricing :)

No experience on rotors. As for pads, I vouch for Akebono Pro ACT. For fluid, I use ATE Super Blue. It takes about 3/4 of a liter for flush and fill.

Just curious, has anyone experienced or had a friend experience a cracked rotor due to having drilled rotors? I've read drilled rotors can be susceptible to being cracked and/or warped more easily than non-drilled rotors especially when in high heat and/or age due to a variety of reasons especially due to weakening of integrity of the rotor (which is why some suggest dimpled rotors).

I plan to bed my brakes, but now I'm a little concerned I may crack or warp them in doing so especially if I'm bedding brakes in every few months like you are supposed to. I really don't want to give away the look of the drilled, but also want to know from you guys if you have ran into these issues with either R1 concept premium or stoptech rotors and/or similar grades.

:eek.: really cracked? im about to get slotted rotors now ill be concerned

slotted are usually another issue....they are designed to clean the pad off....so they tend to dramatically wear down your pads more, which I think is the opposite of what you'd want to do especially if you bed in your brakes and that is how you keep optimal braking performance not by shaving off pieces of pad.

why would you wanna bed every few months? to clean off the pad residue left on the rotor?

oh ok i read ur initial post wrong, i thought u were for beddding every few months.. ya thats a no no

U do want to bed every few months which is typically when the layer on the rotor wears off.

What I'm saying no to is your comment of getting rid of the residue from the rotor. That is what u don't want to do.

YES, bed in every few months. Watch the video.

oh ok i see now, watched the whole vid, very interesting info. I didnt know the layer wears off. But if u ride the brakes hard after it will stay, if u ride them cold and just coast it will wear off.

yep definitely good info in that video, but now my concern is if I'm doing that building up all that heat to bed in a few times, I'm concerned with damaging (cracking/warping) the rotors since they are drilled.

in your case i wouldnt do it frequently and if u have to id say dont stop till 5mph thats harsh, stop from 60-20mph and 3-4 times the most not 8-10 times
