People can take offense because you called them "fools" and "idiots."

Yeah big A - a little harsh calling your customers fools and idiots. I would expect this opinion about this product from any pro detailer. I'm surprised you don't encourage it to get yourself more business, lol.

I've taken the time to learn how to machine polish and I'm happy with the results on my soft Infiniti clear coat. I use the duster only on a recently cleaned and waxed car that has only dust or pollen. It's very convenient mostly because it is a lot faster than hand wiping down with MF. A really big key here is having that nice protective wax coat on the car. I have a hard time believing the duster is going to scratch the surface of the paint through my sealant, glaze and wax layers. I back up that belief by having actual experience - my paint is just fine after using the duster for several years. Of course, I compound & polish a couple times a year so there's no real chance for swirls to become apparent.

Not everybody has the same level of paint protection that I do, nor do they necessarily limit how the duster is used like I do. In some cases I could see how a dirty duster used the wrong way on paint that hasn't been cleaned and protected properly would cause swirls... over time. Short term as a quicky duster minimal risk IMO.

The way you talk about them (and the people who use them)... we get it. I would go so far as to say most other people don't even care about the level of "scratches/swirls" you are talking about possibly causing. Only serious detailers and enthusiasts would go to the lengths that you practice. As a professional, you should be able to objectively look at any product and know what market segment it is aimed at. Most of people who use this duster probably are not going to come to you for business but if you were more professional with your advice, you might gain a couple customers with a thoughtful, constructive, post.

I had one for 6 months or so, then it started to leave dust streaks because it didn't pick up all the dust. I followed instructions to wash with Woolite only, but that didn't help that much either. Since then, I don't really use it.

Summary: didn't work that well for me, wouldn't recommend it to others.

why do i even bother to help sometimes? yea i said what i said but if anyone took it personal then oh well i apologize.
i just give my honest opinion on everything bc i know whats best.
if you like the california duster then right on!

I have had 3 black cars with absolutely pristine paint (I take great care of my cars, and always have). I bought a CA Car Duster brand new, and it didn't do anything except leave oily streaks which pissed me off. However, I traded my grandmother for hers, which she's had for who-knows how long. It was super dirty which stressed me out, but I tried it out and it ended up taking the dust completely off without a swirl in sight. I was very pleased and have had the same one for about five years now. I wash my car once a week, and use the duster between washes. It worked beautifully on my 3 black cars (NO swirls period), and I'm using it on my black/ivory car now.

Edit: So to summarize, I definitely wouldn't buy one new ever again. Maybe search for a well-used one on eBay, as odd as that sounds?

i believe i used it everday till the car died about a yr later.... but i guess i wouldnt buy it again after listening to big a !!!

Was it the chain guides that killed it? 240+ would be hellavalot on originals

to be honest i dont recall nor cared but at the time it was showing signs of aging
1-during idle it would shake and i remember that a mechanic once tole me something with the vacuum or intake
had some leak ..... hmmm i was like 18 -19 at the time .... and didn't know anything i twas my first car that
I bought with my money...so...
2- it was overheating during ac usage but when i was on the highway it was ok i guess the air colled it bu on local
I remember turning my ac for 5 min and when it shows gage going up i would shut it off and drive and turn back on... when it lowers...
but I frove it for like yr and half total of 15-20k mile out of it so it died around 26k on me ..... It stopped on the road one day and i just

Care to share the process of removing light dust other than dragging a mop head across the clear? I may not be the greatest detailer, but regardless what it is you use, your still dragging it across your clear.
