Berman Infiniti Svc Dept Thief caught on camera

Thought I'd add that if I ever take my car to the dealership, I put everything that is in my car in a box and leave it in my garage.

It's a nice excuse for an interior clean as well and to re-organize.

I always assume they are out there to steal your stuff if you leave it in there. I am more concerned about how they treat the car (joy rides, etc...) I take a picture of the mileage before and after.

I also take out anything of value from the vehicle before dropping it off for service. It's enough to worry about the service techs doing the job right...we should not have to worry about what they might steal!

And while it helps to have a good working relationship with your service advisor, your advisor still can't really control what happens to your ride once it enters the shop.

Going there tomorrow for an oil change... Just got it done without incidents lol; I never expect any problems from them.

With regards to the video, it's a bit misleading. It's titled "thief", but in actuality the guy didn't steal anything. We'll never know if he would have if the cam wasn't there, but that's speculation. Never had a problem with this place and the service reps and managers have always been good to me. Also finally got to see the aero front lip on an fx live, I like it and will get it next year in the hopes that a proper drop will be available by then.

Hey Chris, the service rep Bobby and I were talking about your ride and your dash install. Seems like they like your ride there. Those that need service done at a dealership, Bobby's your guy.

Yeah Bobby is good I know he will take care of the FX no worries hope she done tomorrow. Looking forward on getting high off fresh car smell.

So how it go? What they say?

Manager was pretty pissed off on two points; mad at the video for being labeled theif where no crime actually took place and for the service tech for looking through the console in the first place.

Both valid points.
The guys that work there are completely suspicious, though cant see any crime in that video.
Just evidence that the crew is a bunch of goofballs that are capable of the crime.

No offense to mechanics, but I kind of expect to find "goofballs" in a service garage. I wouldn't condone any kind of snooping around, but let's look at the seriousness of the event. It looks like the guy flipped thru papers in the cupholder while waiting to run thru the car wash. It's not like he went thru a closed duffel bag, put someone's panties on his head, and then stole a laptop.
I'd have to side with the garage on this one. The only crime is a deflamatory false alligation.
Maybe I'm missing something in the video.

Exactly what I've been thinking the whole time. Nothing wrong was ever actually done. This would be like if you were at a red light and wanted to speed off as soon as it turned green, but then saw a cop up ahead and decided not to do it after all. The cop can't pull you over for thinking about speeding. Hopefully this is an isolated event and not the norm at this dealership.

totally agree, & you didnt miss anything. No crime, no offense. Still wonder what corporate said. Atom, Didnt you send it early this week?

The video was sent to Nissan corporate.
They contacted the dealership, and told me that the Service department manager said he had not seen the video.

They asked for a copy to send to the "Retail Fix Manager".

The Service manager contacted me the same day.
He said a client had showed him the video for the first time.

He was unable to explain what the employee was doing in the center console.
He verified that nothing in the employees job description required him to look inside the center console.
The employee's job was to start the car and move it to the wash bay.

The employee started the car and instead of putting it in gear, he begin to probe the center console.

He only stopped his probe when warned that he was being recorded.

The probe was not a thought as someone tried to compare it to thinking about speeding.

The act was commited.

The complaint was not for theft
It was for invasion of privacy.

The title refers to the nature of the individual makeing the probe.

The manager was in damage control mode.
His position was the employee had no right or reason to probe the center console.
He was also concerned about the workers standing around shootinga the breeze.

For me, workers shooting the breeze at shop rates is another issue all together.

My focus is someone in my car looking through my private posessions.

Every one who has any responsibility to bear at this point agrees that the employee was out of line and this is a problem that has to be addressed.

There is an underling theme of the video that appears to show an accepted culture of probeing customer cars. The actions of the service department after the facr, indicates complicity after the fact.

As for the Service manager being mad, that's his fault.....
I had no intention of makeing the video public.
I posted a version labled BAD APPLE.
I did not identify them or their location.
I spoke with both Sales and Service manager on the phone
I sent the Sales manager and Service manager links to the video.

I contact them a week before I posted this video, The service department would not return my calls and when I did speak to the sales manager, He told me that the managers had looked at the video and felt the employee was just being curious.
And no action needed to be taken to correct this behaviour.

In other words they blew me off.

That is why the video got posted and Nissan consumer affairs became involved.

Because of the way Berman service manager responded to a customer concern.

I felt good common business sense would have led them to make respond in a mannor that would make me feel that my concern was a concern of theirs also.

That is not what happened.

Some people seem to think violating an individual's privacy and probeing a customers car is Ok
no harm done.

I for one think that's one of the things thats wrong with society today.

For me, I respect other peoples privacy and property. I expect the same in return.

Berman's also owns star nissan about 90% sure, i've personally got into it with the service manager there and it was just unprofessional and that just made me sour at the dealership for service. Then they attempted to play some bait and switch and etc at the sales side and i gave up on that.

Berman's infiniti used to be gold coast infiniti right? The dealership has that high and HUGE drive up ramp to make it to service? The guy in the car is not a mechanic, he is a porter getting paid min. wage to wash your car and fetch cars. If it was gold coast and they kept the same guys, those guys are goof balls. Cars falling off lifts, damaging bumpers just bad stuff in general.

i agree with atom on the 'invasion of privacy'. while i always assume myself that anytime i am leaving my car at any service center, it WILL be searched, the worst feeling is to actually know that it happened. although it's evident that nothing was stolen, it's clear such an attempt was made. and it was great effort and patience shown by Atom in contacting them first and then proceeding to take further steps harmful to the stealerships reputation. IMO, without a doubt, OP deserves an explanation/apology and that guy in the video needs to be disciplined.

also, Stu, this case is more like the guy did speed off without knowing the cop was actually there and then slowed down like I used to once he realized his presence and already started to envision the consequences.

The service center is off Division on Goose Island.. I heard that there were issues with employees under previous ownership, but has since been rectified. I have not had any issues with them in the 2 years that I've been using their services.

Same here no issues my FX is there now actually has been there for 3 Days now. I'm concern about my rims and how the treat my FX. Also, their workmanship, they should know the pride and hard work I put into it.

I bought my 2008 FX35 CPO there on 10/15 with 33k miles on it. It's now 10/31 and I have been back to the service department like 5 times including not having the windshield fluid neck that they claim it fell off, tires worn unevenly which they refuse to replace, and also the tires/rims had corrosion which it took them 2 times to stop it from leak air. I have filed a compliant to corporate and they are useless also. They told me that they trust the dealer for inspection. To me it seems like CPO means nothing to them and they probably didn't do their job and inspecting the car. I love the car but very dissatisfied by the professionalism and standards of this dealership. I have done my research and saw the high standards from the website. It doesn't seem to reflect on the vehicle from my experience. Should of gotten the car from Lisle. Very very disappointed at this dealer.

not all dealerships are bad.....some are so good you'd be shocked. Instead of complaining to corporate, find another dealership. It's not worth the aggravation.
