2009 fx50s
So yesterday I was about to wash my fx,the car was still running but I was getting some things together outside of the car with the keys in my pocket ....my little brother jumped in the car and drove it off ..he drove around the block and came back ....doesn't the car need the keys to drive ...? Thought the beeps you hear when you leave with the key meant the car knew the key wasn't there and wouldn't move ..???

nope.. i drove my 2005 fx for miles following my girl in her car.. she needed her car key and i had it in my key chain so i turned on my FX and gave her the key so she can turn on her car.. i fallowed her to the shop where i dropped my FX to get the exhaust's leak fixed and it didnt turn off at any time... it kept beeping but thats about it.

I love this feature and use it all the time...for instance when we forget to lock the house, so she takes they keys and locks the house, but the car can still run cooling down or warming up, or for some other purposes......but I also make sure that when we leave, we still have the keys....you don't want to drive somewhere 50 miles to realize after you shut the car off that you left the keys. hehe

That situation drives me crazy! Sometimes I actually take the key off my ring while it's in the ignition so I can lock the house without turning off the FX.

I was always under the impression you needed the keys to shift from P -> D. Uh oh... time to not leave my car running anymore...

In my friend's car he had custom key fob in pocket. So if left car and it drove away for 30 feet away without him,it shuts off the gas supply and car shuts off :-) Very cool feature.

What if you started your car, started driving somewhere, then the little battery in the key fob happened to die, the computer sensed this and stopped the engine just as you entered a busy intersection? I believe this is the reason Infiniti did not program the cars ECU that way?

I would have had the key fob programmed to lock the doors, seal/lock the windows, stiffen the steering, and fully open the gas throttle to have the thief have a run for his actions.

I had remote start on my last car, for 15 years, and again on the FX. When started with that, hitting the brake stops the engine, so I use that all the time. Now someone can't smash a window and drive off. Even if I jump out and leave my wife in the car, I shut off the engine, then start it back up with the remote. Yep, paranoid. But it's cheap safety.

Which remote start system do you have?

Sent from my Android

From Auto-Mate, But that's all the details I have right now - books are in the car. Do you want more details?

I have used my remote start while the car was in Park and still running. Then I just had to turn the key to the Off position without the engine ever actually shutting off.
