18" vs. 19" wheels

Hello everyone, I just joined the forum. I have owned Nissans for many years and I am very close to purchasing an Infiniti EX. I test drove one and thought it was great. Here's my issue. I want the Tech package but as many of you know, to get it you have to purchase the Touring package which comes with 19" wheels. I prefer the 18" wheels which will have a better ride. The dealer will swap out the 19" wheels for the 18"'s but I need to know if there are any ramifications to this, with respect to such things as the speedometer reading, tire pressure gauge, transmission and suspension settings, etc. etc. Basically, can the wheels be swapped with absolutely no detriment to the car?

Your help and advice is much appreciated. Thank you. .. Jeff

Welcome to IS.

I think the smaller wheels come with taller tires for this very reason. (So Infiniti doesn't have to calibrate the speedometers differently for each wheel size) You could figure it out easily enough if you can find the tire sizes for the wheels in question.

EDIT:
Ok, I found your info. (posted below) The difference between overall height for the two tire sizes is .06", or just under 1/16". This is what could certainly be referred to as a "negligible difference" as far as your speedometer is concerned.

Enjoy your 18's.

18x8 225/55r18 - overall height = 27.74"
19x8.5 245/45r19 - overall height = 27.68"

You are smart to go with the 18's for sure. The only EX35 I could find within 250 miles that had the right price and low miles had the 19's and I absolutely hate them. Am actively looking to swap or exchange them out for 17's preferably or even 18's depending on what I can find and the price. The 19's make the car feel "heavy" and they also degrade the ride and are noisy. Only way I can stand to drive car now is by running low air pressure in them. Kudos to you for getting the 18's to start with--you've definitely avoided some problems.

I meant to include in my last post that I did some research on it and the above poster is correct--the overall diameter of the 245/45 19's and 225/55 18's is extremely close, virtually the same so you'll be just fine with the 225/55 18's.

Too bad were so far apart I know a guy that would love to trade his 18" for 19"
