Small Oil Filter

Oil filter

I perfer to use wix filters which by the way is what most use in nascar, that being said, yes i am disappointed with the small size. Looks like a toy...........

I wouldn't go by what they use in Nascar, because those engines aren't built to last very long. And I doubt in Nascar they use the same Wix filter you will pick up at AutoZone. Maybe the do though, people in Nascar aren't exactly the smartest.

Nascar

Sorry but i disagree with you. Those engines turn max rpm's for hours, many engineers are involved , and only a few companies make their own filters. Ps....i've had the privilege to know such men and they are not drive-way mechanics...............are you?

So how many miles does the average Nascar engine have on it? And do they pick up the filters from AutoZone or have them specially made from Wix?

I do my car work in the garage.

I use WIX Filters in ALL my "machinery", and have for years. I get mine from Rockauto.

Maybe you are not understanding what I am saying. Never said Wix filters are bad, they make a good product. I also don't know why you are avoiding my questions, but that isn't a big deal. For all you know, Wix is paying Nascar and signed a contract so that they use their filters. They are probably replaced after every race, so it's not a good reference to how well the filter works. Only it's ability to take harsh punishment for a short amount of time, aka the exact opposite of what we need from an oil filter in the FX.

My point is just that what works in Nascar may not be the best thing for a daily driven car. Racing engines are way different from normal engines. And you never know if what they use is the same thing we can buy as a consumer. It's just like saying, well Pirelli makes the tires for F1, so I should get Pirelli's. Pirelli makes a great tire, but you are not going to run the same tires as they do on an FX.

You should check out Jumbosrule thread, and see his oil filter set up. It's pretty nifty.

I understand and agree--I wonder how many people actually think the engines are the same in the showroom as they are in NASCAR??
I think vetteman and most of us here, know the difference.
Personally---I don't care what NASCAR uses--I base all my useage on past experience--not what I have read or been told!

Oh sorry, I didn't mean that post towards you. But yeah, best way to do it is find something that works for you and stick with it. Always nice to do a little research though, it's just hard to know if it's company sponsored or independent testing.

FWIW, I run a Pure ONE 14610 in my FX35. It's about 1/2" longer than the 14612 which is spec'd. Handily, it also fits my RX-7 which happens to also be spec'd for the shorter 14612.
