I've said this a few times on the site
already on October, but I was going to get the 2012 srt8. I was set on it for probably 2 years. I knew I wanted it for the speed and also got excited after seeing the 2011 but also was impressed with the new motor going to produce almost 550hp. Anyway we were car shopping, found out the fx50 does 0-60in about 5.1 and srt8 does slightly under 5 and after I test drove it since luxury and technology is huge for me, it was a no brainer. I could have gotten a new fx50s no miles for about $56k with my discounts. 2012 srt8 would have run probably $44k new. This is without taxes. I just decided to go with a 2009 with some miles 100k warranty for low $40k with fx50s loaded 26k miles. So I was also happy to spend less than originally planned. I dont normally give out numbers but it explains why i made my decisions the way i did clearer for you. Think of this also, the srt8 comes with only 36k miles warranty. Chrysler covers crap when it comes to srt8s. When they advertise lifetime powertrain warranties the little writing excludes srt8s. It's bull but yet even with mpg I wanted it but not after test driving a fx50 and the 2011 grand Cherokee limited to compare interiors.
And to be completely honest, i was watching the streamcast of when they were unveiling the 2012 srt8 since I was following it and waiting for it, I couldn't believe how much I hated the exterior. the front bumper looks out of place with the rest of it ands looks cheap with the LEDs they are using and the side and back is exactly like the limited minus the badging!!!! Wtf? They put on horrible rims, 2010 and under were awesome rims and they got rid of the awesome center dual exhaust that really made it stand out thinking older guys will buy it now for towing.
Furthermore, they came wayyyyy under what the hp predictions were going to be. Everybody was saying 525-550 and at the unveiling it came with 465 from what I remember!!! On 12/14 mpg 6,4L. I and others were expecting more from the hemi. Now compare that with the fx50 that only has 390 hp and pulls pretty close 0-60. I was worried I was going to be slightly dissappointed of not having the jeep, but with that exterior and numbers, im not at all.
Your decision obviously but just gave you my life car shopping story last year!
