Andrew as I told you before, if I lived closer I would be getting you to do your magic on my FX.
You know Aaron will be back, he has to have one of the most cared for FXs around :smile (2):, and it shows.

As some of you may know I ran into a few problems. No matter what I do this clear coat is hard as a rock when you want to polish it in certain places. No matter what pad combination and polish I use it simply doesn't want to accept anything. I spoke to Cheechitup on here and he recommended I step up to some agressive cutting yellow pads and Meguiar's M105 Ultra Cutting Compound. That's what he did on his 2009 FX35 with Scratch Shield Clear Coat. I placed an order with Detailedimage.com yesterday for the yellow cutting pads and M105 compound and recieved it this morning. Thank you for being in the same state as me! I recieve all of my order overnight lol. Sweet:

Here is a shot of the doors:

BEFORE:

Notice those bad scratches on the paint? Those are from my watch hitting up against the door by accident. All of them came out!!!!!

If you notice in the picture below that on the after part of the picture there is a slight hazing in the clear coat. This is from using the M105 compound and aggresive yellow cutting pad. This is totally normal. To fix it your suppose to follow up with a Meguiar's M205 finishing polish on a white finishing pad to remove the hazing left behind from the cutting compound and what not:

Need I remind you these are all just test spots. I'm amazed at the cutting power of the yellow pad and the Meguiar's M105 compound. It cuts the time in half! I have yet to actually do the whole FX. Going out of state this weekend for Memorial weekend so you know:biggrin:

Looking fantastic, but if you do this too many times won't you eventually go through the clear? Because aren't you basically taking off a layer of the clear so that the scratches are not visible anymore and then if there are new scratches then it has a higher chance of getting through the clear and getting to the actual paint? Just curious...my knowledge in this area is limited and I think very logically.

Yes this is true. I did some research on this. But it would take decades for that to happen. When you compound and polish you only remove a couple of micron's of clear coat. Most cars have about 160 microns of paint. Somewhere around 50-55 microns of it are suppose to be clear coat. I heard you can polish are ride about 4-6 times before you take away even 2 microns of the 50 microns of your clear coat. So you could polish it for decades without even worrying about it.

Not that it would even effect it, but this is why it's recommended to polish 1-2 times a year only.

I agree if you are going that aggressive I think it would be best to be checking it with a paint thickness gauge before you start so you know how much clear/paint are on there.
I know my Detailing friend uses one and I would imagine Andrew(Big A) has one also.

Also , how can you be hitting it with a watch, I have a watch that is quite big (Omega Seamaster) and I have never bumped my vehicle with it.

Looking good though Aaron

I know it's aggressive, but to that kind of clear it's really not. The clear is really hard so if it takes that much aggressiveness to even remove some of the swirls, then in reality it's not removing too much clear. I can tell you I barely even removed a micron of clear. Andrew Big A doesn't use a paint thickness reader. Atleast that's what I saw when I went to his shop. Actually alot of professional detailers I never see them using a paint thickness gauge. Only some of them do (atleast that's what I seen on Autopia). I'd like to invest in one of those Posi-Test gauges, but their too damn expensive. Like $700-$800:tdown:

I don't plan on polishing the car all the time anyways. Next time I polish it again, it'll be a year or two from now.

My watch hit the car when I was washing it lol. Forgot to take it off.:bomb:

Here's another after and before shot but this time out in the direct sunlight. I'm still trying to find some time to work on the rest of the car.

After is on the left and before is on the right:

I know you can still see a few scratches here and there on the after side, but all I need to do is go back over it a second time to rid of all of them. I probably removed about 98% percent of the swirls which is perfect to me.

It's really not that bad. I used to never want to get near a machine polisher, but it doesn't take long to research online and find out pretty much everything you need to know. Hardest part is just buying all the stuff, not cheap.

I used the 105 with the yellow pad on my car. Took only a few hours to do the whole thing.

I started posting pics on Facebook of the work I was doing on my own car, and since then people have been sending me messages asking me how much.

So far i've done a full job on a 911 and a Panamera, a wash and wax on a Rogue, Civic and Elantra. I have another 911 lined up this weekend (full job again), an X5 and a Santa Fe. This is turning into a small little business

looks good and I truly understand what it takes to get the courage to purchase a polisher. Now I like to detail all of my rides..... some paint colors are more forgiving then some and once you do your research you can have all of your cars looking good.

keep up the good work! im waiting on my pc this week. got a package with the lc pads at 15% off from the memorial weekend.
