TPMS Sensor and Airbag Light

Hello,

This is a two part question/concern. Purchased a new set of wheels and tires few weeks back. Didn't want the hassle of changing OEM TPMS sensors between the original and new set of tires so I purchased a new aftermarket (I am assuming because they were $50 each) TPMS sensor. After driving for a day, the tire pressure sensor came on. Called up the dealer ship and they advised that they can't program aftermarket sensors. To save some $$$ of switching, I didn't mind the light on at all.

Within a day or two, my passenger airbag light came on. Took it to the dealership and they said one of the sensors underneath the seat is bad. So they have to order the part and it's going to take a while because of what's going on in Japan. While it was there, they looked at why the tire pressure light was on and they told me passenger front TPMS sensor is bad?!?!?

Anyone experienced this before or have any expertise? Should I call the place where I purchased the sensors and have them swap out for me? What if they can't program it after? Thank you in advance IS members.

Yes there has been cases of bad air bag sensors. As for the tpms, its possible that the sensor went bad. However I do think that dealership can program a sensor to work with your car. Try another dealership. I hope you have the option of returning the bad one. I do not have tpms sensors on my car and the air pressure light comes on only after I have driven at least 35 miles. Then upon restarting the car, the light goes away till another 35 miles. But the thing is, I almost never drive that much one way. Wonder if its the same cas on the 2nd gen models!!!

I know that the first gens were able to use aftermarket TPMS as I am running a set in my winters. The second gen system is different so I'm not sure if it is allowed.

Follow up... took the car back into the dealership to fix the airbag issue. Comes find out... there's a bigger issue that caused the repair damage to be $4000. good thing it's under warranty

Can you elaborate on this issue? It might help our members in the future.
