Annual Midwest Spring/Fall Area Meet in Chicago

Only thing that concerns me with this location is the fact that it is a park district.. What if that weekend they're having some soccer games or hosting some tennis event? The parking lots would become crowded and our cars would likely be parked scattered in differnt spots; it would be nice to see a whole row of FX's. Park districts tend to get packed with events on weekends when the weather gets nicer. Andrew, since you grew up in the area, you would have greatest knowledge with regards to this.. You make the call.

Yeah, being there and see only limited parking I have the same feeling that if the weather is nice that place will be packed. I'll said go with Busse Wood.

Good point Ian, with it being Sunday, parking can get scattered. I did have another place in mind in Oak Brook. There's a very private in my brothers Subdivision and just north of it is a the grade school I attended too. The lot has tennis courts and the parking lot seems big enough for the cars. And its a peninsula too, how cool is that? I'll let you guys look at the pic and decide.

Ya why not? It's there for the people to use. My brother lives just to the south too. I have never seen cars there my entire life. The only problem is that there are no bathrooms.

I can see how that would be a problem..

hahaha, we just going to fill the pond up then. Yeah it going to be a problem.

Option#1 Busse woods, you need to have a lot (Grove) permit for any alcohol consumption. With a permit you also get your own designated parking area. It costs $10 to apply. The actual cost is $35 for a grove with no shelter or $65 for a grove with shelter. The permit is for the whole day but the person who is the designated permit holder (purchaser) must be there at 8am to check in. I'm down to throw in, but i don't see the need for the shelter. There are picnic benches and port-o-pottys throughout. if we all chip in and there is 10 people going so far thats like 4.50 an fx. If anyone who lives closer to there than me and wants to check out what grove to request, that might not be a bad idea. You could even make the reservation right there at the main office.
Option#2 Blackwell forest preserve, they have real bathrooms, and we can reserve a pinic pavillion area for FREE. I did not see any info on alcohol, if it is allowed or not allowed on the website. I'm sure if we act civil it won't be a problem. That's the skinny, so discuss but let's decide soon to reserve something somewhere.

I say we stick to the Busse Woods location and set that in stone; we need to move on. Blackwell is nice, but farther from the guys in chicago and the food choices are more limited. Maybe don't worry about a permit; for those that want a cold beer we can always hit up a bar later and we don't need a pavillion. We can still bring drinks and snacks etc.. Like you said there are lots of picnic tables and plenty of parking..

This cool with everyone?

Busse Woods is cool with me, just wanted to put the second option out there. Totaly understand it's closer for you guys comming in from the city.
There are lots of benches and parking in the picnic area where the groves are, but only in that area. If we decide Not to get a permit, just wing it and try to find a spot, maybe we will get lucky or maybe not. Whatever you guys decide is fine, just trying to contribute and help. I can only speak for myself by saying I don't mind throwing in 5 bucks for a nice shaded area with seating and plenty of close parking. Sure being able to have a cold brew would be nice, but your right it is not needed.

Up to you with regards to the permit. I too wouldn't mind a brew while hanging out. If you are up to getting there at 8 am to pick it up then go for it. I'm sure the grove fee won't be a problem; if it is then I'll cover it. If you do go, try to get the grove spot on the map. We don't need the shelter.

On 94 in Michigan heading west. Will be in the burbs in about 3 hours until Sunday in case anyone wants to meet-up. :)

Yeah, jd. Just three more week. Sorry couldn't meet up early. Hey maybe you & I meet up somewhere to head out to the Planetarium on the 22nd. I'm coming in from the Western Sub (Aurora). I plan to take I-55. Maybe we should meet up 75th & Rt83? If I remember, you will in the Western Spring, right?

^^^ was going to hit you up, but work was a pain today and I'm beat.. 3 weeks to go!

no prob...my stay in Chicago was good. Did lots of driving....helped out the parents a lot....hope to make it into Indiana near Portage before fueling up tomorrow! lol

You guys better get ready to answer lots of questions....I want to do several electronic mods in the future and I hope you guys don't mind me picking your brains!

Today was windy as hell, but the weather the last two days was unbelievable. I hope we get that kind of weather for the meet!

That sounds great...yeah that is about 5 minutes from my parent's house too. Are you a coffee drinker? I'm not an early bird, so I'm gonna want a venti latte from Starbucks and then I'll be good. There is a starbucks slightly more north by the portillos before plainfield rd on 83 to the right. Something like 71st & Rt83. Maybe we should meet there at 7:30am especially if you like coffee too?

Very excited; just crossing my fingers the weather holds up! :smile (2):

Starbucks I'm talking about:

7167 Illinois 83
Willowbrook, IL 60527
(630) 321-0317 ‎

but I just realized they might not be open at 7:30am, not sure, would have to call to verify. Just tried calling, but keeps ringing with no answer, so we'll have to check later what time they open Sunday mornings.
