Oil light illuminating

Hi Guys
Just joined up to the site and it looks superb, I am from Scotland but working in Azerbaijan right now on assignment whilst having the use of a lovely 04 fx35.

I am pretty good mechanically and would be delighted if you guys could assist with a problem I have discovered.

this car runs perfect no dodgy warning lights or faults however when braking hard the oil light comes on......
ive checked the level and it seems fine, there is no oil being burnt out the back and the engine is super quiet at all times so no suggestion that the oil pressure is too low to fill the lifters.

I am hoping its a faulty sensor or wiring because even if it is illuminating due to lower oil pressure surely it would be on all the time at idle when the engine is warm ?

I should say there are no oil leaks either and putting a little more oil in than recommended helps to keep the oil light out but this is just another indication to me that the oil pressure is being picked up wrongly.

Have any of you guys experienced a fault with the sensor ?

i can't think of a single member here who has had this problem before. In general..
"Engine Oil Pressure Light.
When this light comes on and stays on or flashes on and off when braking, it means oil isn't going through your engine properly. You could have low oil level, low oil pressure, or you might have some other engine problem. Be sure to check your oil every time you get fuel."
kinda unusual since you have a 35 and not a 45. i would bet on the sensors if you checked the oil and determined it to be proper.
bare in mind that driving a car in this situation without proper diagnosis is a bit dangerous.
Welcome to IS by the way.

Thanks for your comments buddy
it is rather disconcerting to have an oil light illuminating and I am well aware of the consequences of low oil pressure however none of the symtoms associated with low oil pressure are evident.
If I was in Scotland I could go and have the oil pressure measured but over here in Baku .... no I dont think thats going to happen lol.
I'll look into which oil grade they used at the last service too but as stated its only coming on when you brake hard obviously when the oil in the sump moves.

haha good luck with a dealership visit there. just like you said, when you brake hard, the oil moves and the sensors detect low level of oil and kicks the light on. lets just hope they didn't use some cheap oil or put the wrong one or a lot less than necessary.

maybe the oil light comes on because when you brake hard, a lot of the oil moves forward inside of the engine and either not enough oil or sensor to sensitive or something else.....try this test....drown down a steep hill and see if you have the same problem....just something to isolate the problem more I guess.

i had this problem, only once the light came on when braked hard. Apparently the fx's have this issue with oil leaking (valve cover gasket). After this was fixed and oil changed, light is gone
