best dallas service department?

Well, after a couple of resets, I have given up on the airbag light. My local repair guy doesn't touch airbags, and suggested I take it to the dealer. Closest one is in Tulsa, but I have had significant problems with Cooper Infiniti in the past. Since I have a Dallas trip coming up, I was thinking about bringing it down, and thought I would get opinions on the best service departments?

Sewell. Ask for Josh Mills. I went to the "good" dealership here in San Jose and decided I'll just wait until I get back to Dallas to do any service.

Sewell is fine dealership. But depending on where in the Dallas area you will be, Crest Infiniti (Plano, TX) may be another option if you are going to be north of Dallas. I will say I haven't had a need for their service department yet <knock, knock> but their sales dept staff are very professional.

I've heard less than stellar things from a Crest employee. He works in service, but I think he's leaving soon and opening his own shop. He's on g35driver.

Right, I will actually be in McKinney for most of this trip, but after driving 300 miles to get there, I will go a few more to actually get to the best dealership. After all, it's not like I have to drive across HOUSTON....

The thing I like about Sewell is that everyone there treats you with respect. Even though I was really young, they were always nice and courteous. The people in SJ are somewhat nice, but they also don't seem to care near as much. Sewell is all about making the customer happy.

I have to deal with Grubbs Infiniti in Euless, Tx. I've been there for minor and major repairs and they seem to go a good job but hey there isn't too many Infiniti dealerships around Dallas. Sewell, Crest and Grubbs.

Yeah things may have changed since I was there last over the summer. I hadn't been in awhile, and to my surprise my service advisor actually went to a new Sewell dealership. Luckily a guy I already knew took his place so it was an easy transition.

In my experience, I always know I will get treated well because they know who I am. That might be the same experience everyone else will get. I think it helps that they recognize me by my face, but also the service tech knows my FX and apparently is the one who always works on it, which I thought was pretty cool.

Who is your service advisor there?

Yeah, I had Jack before he left for some new dealership up north, or so I was told. He was great.

My main concern is to get a Tech to actually troubleshoot it, as opposed to start out with replacing the most expensive component first and then work their way down the list.

well...

I have to admit I am not particularly happy at this point. Sewell came back saying that not only the drivers side airbag needs replacing, but also an Airbag module and the steering wiring windup in the column. Total cost 2600+. My concern is if the wiring windup (don't know the proper term for it) is bad, how can you tell what other components are bad (ie if you are getting intermittent contact with the bag). I have owned about 10 cars with airbags for 100k+ each, and this is the first car I have EVER had an Airbag issue with. Honestly, if I thought this was typical, it would be a deal killer for the FX50, I could go get an X6 and have cheaper overall ownership.

Am also concerned that Cooper came back with just the airbag being bad, wonder what I would get if I took it to Grubbs....

I lol'd.

well, i gave up and dropped the hammer on this. talked to the guys and they came up with convincing reasons why all the components should be replaced. gaaaahhhh!

now i will have to drive another 30-50k out of this before i sell...

picked up

Well, the work seemed to go well, and all is fixed. Had them do the plugs and transmission service while I was there. Have been doing the 3qts every 30k on the transmission, but decided if I was going to keep it an additional 50k I ought to have the fluid changed entirely. Sewell was nice to deal with, loaner car, price came back for what I was quoted. Not their fault on what they found.

They get 4 stars....

nice thread, subscribed
only picked up car earlier this week from Grubbs, closest to where i live.
the sales are pretty good, but not sure about the service though.
will keep checking back on this thread
