Importing an FX into Canada - any advice?

Hello everyone,

I’ve been a long time reader and finally took the plunge and registered.
I was wondering how many Canadians imported their FX’s from the US?

I’m looking to import a 2010 FX50 (with low miles on it) in the coming weeks / months and wondered what everyone’s experiences were?

Are there any FX owners in the Toronto area as well?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Mike

I'm pretty sure there are members from Toronto.

as for importing, I believe there are a bunch of paper work, and also I think you have to install DRL... There are some hassle, but to my understanding, in the end, you'll still save some money. I'm sure there's also tax involved too or something in that nature.

Any idea how to enable the DTRL on a 2010?

I have been doing some reading é searches and most solutions are for first Gen models.

Any help would be awesome.

Thanks

My great aunt and uncle wanted a new car. They are older and requested a Toyota Camry. I bought a new XLE V6 with every option on it (voice activated touchsceen nav, jbl sound, heated seats, smartkey, stuff that most 60-70year olds wouldnt want lol, even though I was worried it may be too much tech stuff they said buy it and bring it for them). They said they saved 15Gs on just the purchase. The importation process was time consuming because of the paperwork, but in the end they still saved money.

Thanks for all your advice everyone and links.

I’ve spent the past 2 weeks doing a lot of reading and I’m pretty sure I now know how to import the FX now.

My only concern I have is I haven’t figured out how to get the Day Time running lights activated or installed once I get it across the border.

How have other owners done it? I`m looking at a 2010, FX50.

Any thoughts?

sorry for the off topic question, but why are you importing an FX to Canada? Is Infiniti not available there in the north?

Local dealership can do it. Or when you purchase it from the US request that they have it done before shipping.

Not sure how local Infiniti dealers are, but the local toyota dealership was more than helpful with my great aunt and uncle. They even showed them how to use bluetooth and navi, even though they didn't purchase it from their dealership.

MSRP price on FX50 is $10,000 higher in Canada. Destination / Delivery is $1,000 higher in Canada. Canadian dealers insist on starting negotiations at MSRP, US dealers will sell BELOW invoice... AND Canadian Dollar is higher then US Dollar :wink (2):

Canadian Tire is one option but I wouldn't go there. Canadian Infiniti dealers will charge you $100's if they even decide to do it at all.
Send me a PM and I will get you contact info for a shop in Mississauga.

Hey Tsuius

I'm too much of a newbee to send PM's.

I was told Infiniti dealers can't easily do it and was quoted $275 to get it done.

Thoughts? Maybe you can PM me?

Thanks

Some Infinitis DTRLs can be turned on with the Nissan Consult
You can Exchange the US BCM for a Canadian BCM
Or hard Wire and aftermarket DTRL module

Is there any difference between the FX35 and FX50 with this mod?

I asked the installer if he worked on a FX50 before and he said no. But he worked on lots of FX35`s. He said the two are the same. Is there any truth to that?

Big savings, better selection, better option packages....good reasons to pick one up from the US.

If you're buying from a dealership, negotiate the DTRL as part of the deal...that's what my friend did for his '09 when he brought it up. If they can't activate it OEM style, they can easily install an aftermarket module (although these don't usually have the exact same functionality as the Cdn OEM DTRL) and eat the cost.

I imported my '08 and saved about $15K at the time. The DTRL wiring mod did the trick for me.

Actually that is the truth They will not know if the DTRLs can be turned on untill they scan the BCM with the consult...If it were mine I would go for the Canadian BCM for a much cleaner factory install
