Ideal offset?

im pretty all over the place with offsets and figuring out what will fit and what wont... for a 2006 fx35 20x8.5-9.5 wheel size what is a good offset. what is the range... will anything from 15-45 fit? guessing the lower the offset(15) the more it will stick out and the higher(45) the more it sits in the fender? right now im running stock 20" sports which are 8" and +40 i believe. wheels im considering are all mostly in the 30-40 offset range... im ordering online so i just want to avoid problems.

also with the centerbore most sites are listing(rims im looking at) in the 73 range but it does list the wheels as fitting the fx35, from my understanding the fx is in 63 range. i am guessing once i order they will send me the appropriate wheel. if not will tire shops be able to put the right ring/adapter or what not on?

im not worried about the wheels sticking out a bit or sitting in a bit at all. i doubt i'd go over +40 and im fine with the way my wheels sit now.
 
Centerbore is 66.06. Rounded to 66.1 for most wheels. You will need hubcentric rings to run anything larger. Anything smaller with not fit without spacers with the proper inner hub bore for the FX (66.1) and outer hub bore for the wheels.

Most aftermarket wheels usually carry a larger hud bore so that they can drill whatever patterns from the blanks and be used on multiple manufacturers.

so in my case the centerbore is listed around 73 and the fx is 66 like u said so i would be okay. the problem would arise if i got something that was under 66 correct?

Your right aout the lower the offset the further out they will sit.I'm running a +15 offset with 22X9 rims and 265/40/22 tires and lowered with H&R springs with no rub issues. They look flush with wheel wells.

okay great so it sounds like i can basically mount any 8-9.5" wide wheel with a 15-40ish offset and be safe, no rub issues or anything. basically just either sit in a bit more or extend out a little depending on the offset. my tires are 265/50/20s if that makes a difference.

Yep you are correct. All aftermarket rims have larger hub bores. Specify what vehicle its for and they will come with the correct hucentric rings. Some are made of aluminum, others metal; I prefer the aluminum ones, but have run the plastic ones without any problems.

Also correct on the offsets. Todays "in thing" is to have the wheel/tire sitting flush with the fender and not tucked. So if you are into trends but the wheel isn't available in the correct offset for that (tucked too much) you can use spacers to get the visual/stylistic appealing flush look.

oh i see. i like the wheels roughly flush with the fender also, looks nice. right now my 20" sport wheels sit in a tad and are a 40mm offset. the new wheels im looking at are 38mm so i am guessing the 38mm will stick out a tad more? also the fact the stocks are 8" wide and the new ones will most likely be 8.5-9" that would make them more flush also?

To be exact on how much more they will push out use the offset calculator stickied at the top of this subforum. They will stick out (extend) 8mm more with an 8.5" wheel and 38 offset, for a 9.0" wheel with a 38mm offset it would stick out (extend) 15mm more. Find some wheels you like, along with the width and offset specs and play around on the offset calculator.

38mm is still kind of tame on those widths and will still be tucked.

so roughly an ideal offset would be about 8.5-9.5 wide wheel with a 25-35mm offset?
 
If it's 9" wide 15mm for sure. MTN FX has 22x9 with an offset of +15mm and his sits flush lowered on H&R springs along with Chedman and some others.

how about stock height 8.5 35mm all around?

also on some sites they list fwd rims and rwd rims. i have a awd fx so if the rims fit can i get either fwd or rwd does it make a difference??
 
The only things matter are the bore size, bolt pattern, wheel width and offset. There is no difference for fwd rims and rwd rims. Unless you are going with BBKs, then you will have to find out the clearance on the wheel face design for caliper clearance.

8.5 with +35mm offset is fine. I am running 22x10 with +30mm offset.

great so the 8.5/35mm will be pretty flush?

9.5 rims or 9 w/50's might rub with 15 offset
