Hub bearing problems common for 1st gen FX?

I had this annoying thrumming noise/vibration most prevalent when driving between 40-50 mph, and took it to dealer yesterday. They put it on a lift and put a stethoscope on each side of the front axle and found both left and right hub bearings were bad. Replaced both for no charge thank goodness. I only have 47k miles on my 05 FX. Isn't that a bit premature for failure?

Their life expectancy strongly depends on the usage of course, mine from 2003 with 63K has 1 "noisy" bearing on the driver side.
No play as yet, but i have to agree that such parts should last longer than they are doing.

Mileage is all relative and doesn't matter as much ad people think. I've seen cars that have 30k miles fall apart badly while the same car has over 100k and still in great.

The difference is how it's driven: meaning are most of the miles highway or not and the frequency. An older year car with low miles suggests short distance traveling which is much much harsher on the car than longer driving times mixed with highway use. I've seen this too many times.

If u turn your car on to drive to get groceries and back every day for 5 years versus a car where it's driven half hour to work and once a month driven long distance to somewhere else, it will have many more miles and the car will be in better shape. I can't explain why I just see it from experiences over and over again.

I think i have worn hub bearing assembly as well but when I inspect via 12 / 6 o clock wheel shake, there is no play, what other way can I tell to see which side is worn?

I don't know about yours but mine is noisy, you can hear it when driving.
Bit of a metal sqealing constant noise.
But like you did as well, i tried the wheelshake test and there is no play but from experience i can tell you that a noisy bearing doesn't live long anymore.
