2011 FX35 AWD vs. 2011 Jeep Gr. Cherokee Overland Summit

Have narrowed my next purchase down to the 2 vehicles in the title.
My wife's car is a 2008 G35x, but my last 3 vehicles have been a 1990 Jeep Wagoneer, 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, and a 2006 Grand Cherokee Overland.
Has anyone considered the new 2011 Summit version vs. the FX35?

Your comparing apples to oranges.

If your wanting better performing, luxurious interior, and more quiet ride get the FX. If your wanting a noiser ride, cheaper interior, but more utility and space get the Jeep.

Drive them both back to back and take the wife. If you have the opportunity, pile some gear in the rear.....Best guess is that the FX is going to have a higher on-road fun factor.

I owned nothing but jeeps since high school. My last vehicle was a grand Cherokee limited with the hemi. It was a great car but the interior was cheap and the overall quality was not good. The car may look good in the showroom but it will not hold up well over time. I noticed that jeep's quality was actually going down since the 2002 but I overlooked that because of the value for money and all the features However, my hemi blew up on my way to my best friends wedding and almost killed me because of a coolant hose that came undone. Jeep took a month to replace the engine and did not provide me with a loaner. Warranty service was spotty at best. After that day, I will never buy a jeep again--except for the wrangler, there is little to go wrong with those. Infiniti is a world a way in terms of quality and customer service. Just because the jeep looks nicer on the outside and has a better interior than past jeeps, it is likely still crappy quality under the skin. The last thing you need is something like my experience to put your family in danger.

There is no comparison as the others said. The Jeep is a box on wheels where the FX is style. I would get the Jeep only if you want something that you can drive around and you don't worry about where you park it or how you park it.

They are very different vehicles. It's night and day. The Jeep was engineered for off road in mind and the FX is primarily for on road. I really do like the new GC though, it's Jeep's best GC yet. The interior is as handsome as the exterior, especially the Overland edition. Do you enjoy driving your wife's G35? Did you actually take your Jeeps off road or on the trails? Maybe it's time for a change and go for the FX! The interior and driving dynamics are far superior than the Jeep in my opinion.

Have had no trouble with the 2006 Overland, but the Summit is supposed to be significantly more luxurious, and it appears to have some additional features that the FX does not.

What were the primary deciding factors?

Obviously, the "Infiniti FX vs Jeep Cherokee comparison" forum is where you need to be...

I think he means that you are going to be hard pressed to get an honest objective opinion on an FX enthusiast forum. I don't guess many here have compared the vehicles in question and even if they did at one point, they have all clearly chosen the FX. Pose this question on a Jeep forum and you'll likely get answers from the opposite side of the spectrum, and they'll probably be equally subjective. I'd suggest driving each of them and deciding for yourself.

Although the new Jeep Cherokee's are even better than before and are pretty nice, I always saw Jeeps as something for more utility and offroading purposes. The FX is more luxurious and sporty. Plus it's an Infiniti ;)

If you want a sporty Jeep get an SRT.

Yes, I will be closely looking at the Overland Summit when they come out shortly and will compare to the FX.

I test drove and come from a jeep background and own an FX. I'll give u a non bias view. Tell me specifically what your question is. If u are wanting a srt8 then look into a used fx50S. If you are looking at an overland, test drive the fx35.

But let me know the questions you have and I'll help you out. I was on the jeep forums for almost 2 years and my wife will soon get a new jeep limited most likely. I know more about jeep GC then any of the salesman you'll meet and what the plans are for the future ones.
