How hot do they get? Please report back in a couple of weeks to confirm how they are holding up!
 
Bulb is holding up without issues. No heat problem either (winter anyways).

Just found out V-LED's V3 Triton bulb is a universal fitment and looks like it will disperse the light and fill in the housing much better.
But this thing is $75 for a pair.

Very interesting. I've been looking for a good bright LED that had some dispersion. Might have to bite the bullet on something like this.
 
^ You should try those. I may get those too, looks like a good quality bulb and color output looks good to match a lot of our Morimoto 6K bulbs that many of us have.
 
Posting one more time :)

This is foto of "burning" lights based on Cree Q5 (old, today they're putting R3 which gives more light and less heat).
Originally they're getting 90C in half a minute. But if you lower current (from 1A to 0.350A) it will be stable and low temp.
Tested by me at ambient temp. of 30C, this foto is about half a year old.
I wonder why chineese and JLC didn't this simple mod????

And yes, it's VERY bright and works fine as DRLs (lowering current for 70% drops light emission only for about 13%).

Yes, I'm using them by myself for 5 months. Started in summer with outside temperature of 30C.

BUT as I mentioned you need to modify them. It takes 15 mins. Another mod - you can buy for example Cree XML U2 emotter and set to these lamps at 500-700mA current.
They will give 3 times more light than older Q5/R3 and they produce less heat.
BUT it will be too much light for DRLs and probably will blind as it has round spot...

Tritons are good idea, but...it costs $30/set, not more :)

Another point - you can make amber turn signal lamp the same way, just replace emitter. Emitter price is about $10-12.
I've made rear fog lamp for my FX of 4 cree red emitters. Noone could stay close to my back longer than 2-3 minutes if it's on...
 
What pics do you need? Driver? Emitter? Lamp?
There are diferent drivers in different "Crees", but all of them are "modable".
If you give me driver's foto I'll say which resistor you need to replace.

If you mean rear fog, this is it:

Inner part. Emitters (Cree XR's) are placed on alu radiator.
Each emitter drains 1A current (for example - the same current is in stock "Crees" which burned some housings). Reflector's diameter is 20mm.

Sure, no problem to revert back. Just swap the sockets and bulbs back. The cutting on the prongs will not affect how it is installed into the original spot.

Cool. And you mean just sockets? I don't see why you would change the bulbs. And 10th post so I can thank you :smile (2):
 
sorry for bumping an old post...has anyone gone with the V-LED's V3 Triton bulbs? If so, how are they holding up? Any damage to the headlight housing because of excess heat?
