Hey guts whats going on
I'm going to pick up a fx35 tomorrow just waiting for the dealer to approve my offer

It's a 2005 fx35 with about 71k on the clock it's the awd package (no warranty)

My only concern is that the motor does have a lot of milage but under what is considered normal in california...

I have done plenty of research and have found about 90% of reviews to rate this car as very very reliable. Is there anything I should personally look over before committing to purchase the car? Any common problem areas or common things that would be a problem?
also after test driving a rwd and wad package I did notice the awd (the one I maybe purchasing) did feel a bit slower is it because of the 4wd system?

Thanks any help would be appreciated

hey, Welcome to :iS:

the first thing that comes to mind (because mine had this issue), is the black trimming around the windows... they tend to fade. They did replace at their cost at one time, not sure if it's still going on.

Welcome to IS.

Listen closely for low rpm engine knocking. If you hear it, find a new fx.

this is the first thing to do, get a can of spray paint if you have faded window trim, listen carefully for any unusual sound, alignment when braking. awd is a little slower. all in all pay as much time as you can on trying to find issues now than to discover them later.
Good Luck with your purchase and welcome to IS.

I bought my FX45 3 months ago with 59,000 on it. I have since driven it 4,000 miles. ( Road trip to Cali. for Thanksgiving.) I do not regret it at all. Not a single issue.
Kicks A$s in the snow and climbs like a goat with the AWD.
Still plenty fast with the AWD by the way.
I say, go with your gut.
If it checks out with the "carfox" and it meets your citeria...
Pull the Trigger
If there was one thing I could change on this car it would be the addition of a 6th gear ( or overdrive) It does run at a high RPM at highway cruising speeds.
Not a big deal, but it does drink alot and overdrive would save some gas.
I know I have a 45 not a 35 but I hope this helps.
:iS:Welcome to the scene.

Check the Valve Cover to make sure there is no leak. Spark Plugs, make sure they are ok. Check belts and battery. Check fuel gauge to make sure when you fill up, it shows full. Check the record such as brake fluid, coolant and transmission drain/fill.

well for sure non of the 60k service was completed on this vehicle the hoses are still marked nissan 04

the car is a 05 awd with 71k as mentioned the dealer is asking 18999 on it talked them down to 17400 just waiting for confirmation call from them

car ext is about 9.5/10
interior is like 8/10 (some dirt on the leather and minor scratches here and there)

would you guys jump on it or should i look for something low milage? and pay upwards of $3-5k more

price wise you in the clear at 17k. but if you can throw in a little more $$$ then why not go for the 06 model which was revised and has so many new features? it's good that the interior gets an 8 from you despite running at 71k miles.
As with any car, ask for all the paperwork..no exceptions.

I have had my 03 since it was new and it has over 120,000 miles on it with no issues - in fact I have not even changed the hoses yet... will probably do it this spring as it is about time for a coolant change... not sure how much Infiniti charges for you for an inspection... going with the '06 to get more features is a good idea... or maybe just buy the '05 and spend a few thousand and buy a good extended warranty...

A few things to check would be to see if it has had the recall done on the head and tail lights... if not make sure they will do it... Also make sure all the door locks work well when it is hot out... the door locks failing is a fairly common problem with the FX... it is actually the one thing that has gone wrong with my car that pisses me off... I need to fix my passenger front door and the rear drivers side door lock actuator (which the dealer wants $500 a door to fix - although i can fix it myself for about $200 a door - another springtime project)...

Good luck...

welcome to IS. Like others, be acute when test driving the car. I bought 04 with sport + tech and to this day, I am enjoying the car. I did encounter some common problems: my driver side lock does not work and the bose cd player is faulty. Even with such problems, I would never trade or sell my fx35: at least not until I purchase the Maserati GrandTurismo in 2 years.

I traded my 06 g35 sedan w/ sports package for fx35 and its worth every penny.

did you take the plunge yet? if so, congrats. i'm planning to join the club tomorrow unless on my 2nd inspection of the car something major pops up...
