Help!!!!! check engine light,slip,vdc off

while i was driving home from school today my car just slowed down by itself and cut off.When i started it back up the check engine light,slip,vdc off light came on.The car also started alittle funny;it tumbled alittle before staring.The car was drivable but im scared as hell lol.Im only 17 and my parents bought me the car.My dad who was a mechanic before told me to take off the neg pole and reset everything maybe just a bad signal read by a sensor but when i put it back on the lights still came on.I have no mods to the car right now except drilled rotors.If anyone could please give me some info on any slightest idea of what is going on it would be EXTREMELY appreciated.Anything would be helpful as what is wrong or how i cud fix it.Thanks alot.
 
You need to have the codes pulled. Autozone, O'Reilly, etc will be able to pull the codes for free. This is where it helps to have a friend with an OBDII scanner or just be nice to the parts store guys and they'll help you out.
 
i have a friend with the scanner im going to get it checked by him tomorow hopefully all goes well.If it doesnt and i need a camshaft sensor how much would it cost me.Not including labor its a perk of having a father who used to be a mechanic =]
 
Ok thanks alot guys i just had it checked with the obd ll sensor and just as dr.2k said it is the camshaft sensors that need to be replaced.Im probably going to order them by tomorow ....anyone know a good site to reccomend let me know.by the way how long is the car driveable for because its gonne take a few days to ship and i need to go to school with it.And thanks again guys all the info was greatly appreciated.

I would not drive it because the sensor is unpredictable once it goes bad and you may not be able to start the car. Mine started going bad and the next day it would not start.

Your dealer may match infinitipartsusa.com's price on the sensor. It's worth a call to check and see. Not all do, mine refuses to match "online" shops.
 
i changed both of my sensors myself.got the sensors from the dealer since i didnt want to wait for shipping online.The car works fine now well for the past hour that i drove it.Thanks guys for all the info and hopefully it doesnt give any problems again.
 
So my 04 FX35 shut off randomly last night and had the VDC slip and SES lights on. I removed the neg cable and reset the ECU. It was off but came back on after a little. when turning on the car it struggles a bit before starting up. I added an intake about 2 weeks ago and eveything was fine, all fluids were checked, oil change, spark plugs and belts are all new. Car seems to be still driving ok although it doesnt feel like it has the kick it use to. This morning the car started up and the only light that came up is the SES, its been chilly lately in Miami and not sure if weather is a factor. Ill have to work on getting codes soon, How would i know for sure its the camshaft sensor that is the problem? what code would comeup if thats the problem?
 
What normally do is read the code, erase it. If the code comes up again then I would start trouble shoot or replace the part that set off the code.
 
Sometimes this happens when the battery starts to go bad, not saying its the problem but can be a possibility.
 
Im going to autozone to see if i can get the code, so far from what ive read its the camshaft sensor but i here thiers two of them but when im looking for these sensors i only find one to buy?, camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor and cam angle sensor our the ones that come up. Battery is brand new, maybe few months.
