Steering wheel column motor

I just got my fx35 back from infiniti dealership and the motor that makes your column go up and down upon getting in or out of the car is broken. It makes a grinding noise and sounds like a duck.... They quoted me 800 to replace and fix it? Is this an easy fix has anyone done this??

The same thing happened to me last month. Got it back from the dealership and the steering column motor was suddenly not working. They quoted me $1300 to fix!
 
So you guys were not having a problem with the steering column motor before going to the shop and some how it comes out broken? I'd be asking the shop a lot of questions!
And those prices seem crazy.
 
I'm very wear of the dealership now. They offered us nothing to help fix it, except for telling us we could report it to Consumer Affairs if we wanted to. With the year of our FX ('03) they said we were pretty much out of luck. It telescopes in and out just fine. It's only the up/down adjustment that makes noise. Makes me doubt I should replace the entire motor!!
