2009 FX50S
Hi everyone,

Picking up my first Infiniti and I'm really excited. A 2009 White FX50 S out of state and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to best prevent bugs hurting the paint as much as possible and easiest way to remove it once I get back home. The drive is going to be 12 hours from the dealership to home. I've heard various techniques before, but I know that this one has the Scratch Shield Paint. I don't know if there is anything I need to be aware of. I want to make sure I take care of this paint for a long time and don't want to possibly damage it by using anything before the drive to keep bugs off or after to get bugs off. :eek.:

Any recommendations would be great! Excited to join the community! :)

welcome to IS,
12 hours to drive..... I would have it tranport to home.

Haha thanks easy_goer! But I love road trips and thought it be an excellent time to test out the technology package! :tongue (2)::biggrin: test out the nav and all the other great features of the car

But I want to make sure I take care of it! Any suggestions?

lotsa painter's tape (blue tape)

for example, our man stu, on his recent road trip

You guys are awesome! I would have never thought of that. I was thinking spraying cooking spray on the car, wd40, baby oil, or dryer sheets before the ride, but wasn't sure it it would harm the paint shield since I'm guessing it's not as durable since it's elastic. This sounds much better (hopefully not an issue with this kind of paint).

It will look ridiculous on a bright white FX...blue tape from Home Depot...getting lots tomorrow...thanks guys and I'll post some pictures when I get home so you can see how ridiculous it looks haha.

haha yeah I was going to say painters tape too. Someone I know with a G35 sedan took a trip down to Florida from up here in NY and used blue painters tape to protect it during the drive down there. It may look stupid, but it's safer in the long run I guess lol.

Welcome to IS by the way!!

You'll love the technology package! I have it on my FX, and I absolutely love the distance control assist feature. It practically drives the car for you =] lol.

Get a stickey note pad and write down all the acronyms for the various tech function switches ( i.e. = DCA = Distance control Assist, etc.) I still have my note stuck to my cup holder cover and have to refer to it every so often. Hope you like your FX50S as much as I like mine ( 2009 Black w/ wheat interior, all options except trailer hitch)

I highly recommend that you get the full front end wrapped in 3M or Venture shield clear bra.
It gives a lot of protection without the hassle and ugliness of painter's tape.

i actually think the painters tape looks pretty cool. Def tells others you care about your ride so stay back haha. While your at it, you should printers tape a couple 'track numbers' on the side of your ride. i mean you do have a 50s afterall and why not test smoking everyone hehe

Yeah I'm sure people will be like wtf is that. It will be interesting to see the dealers reaction. If I put numbers on the sides that would look cool, but something tells me cops are going to pull U turns and start following me much more. haha. Although I think I'll also put the tape above the windshield one strip and along the sides too since lots of bugs get there too. Flying out in less than 24 hours and will be sitting in it in about 28 hours. You guys are going to love the vanity plate I'm getting!

The suggestion about writing down what the buttons mean is a great idea! Thank you! I'm a technology geek so I'm looking forward to that stuff just as much. One thing I love about these cars is that each time I read something or watch something, I learn something else that the car has the others don't or what makes it unique to others.

I sold my Mustang Cobra and was planning on getting the 2012 Jeep SRT8 (But always craved the luxury and technology), but then I test drove a FX35 and it was awesome, and heard what people were saying about the FX50 S, and the performance, technology, luxury, and warranty, it seems a no brainer to go anything but these cars.

+1 on this as well. I so regret not getting mine clear bra from the very beginning. Honestly i rather have no self healing paint. These paint are so fragile a tiny rock chip can peel it all the way to primer. I rather have swirls that i can buff out :mad.:

Get the clear bra now so you will be protected during your trip back & through everyday driving. If you drive highway alot like i do, the bra could of prevented 10 rock chips on my the hood already.....

I drive highway all the time and went on one 6000km (3600 mile) trip this summer and my bumper is chip free with the clear bra.

Where can I get a clear bra and how much does it run? Order it from a website or from the Infiniti dealer?

I'm picking up the car tomorrow so if I can get it at the dealer and the price is not that bad, I can just have them put it on before I leave otherwise I already bought 2 blue painters tapes from Lowes that I plan on using. I'm also going to buy touch up paint from the dealer for this potential rock chips you mentioned.

It cost me $560 Canadian to get a full bumper wrap, the leading 1 foot of the hood and front fenders, the two side mirrors and the ledge at the back liftgate.
Your Dealer probably knows where you can get it done. Or when you get home Google it for your area, just type in Clear bra 3M or Clear bra Venture shield. It is cheaper to get it done by dealing directly with the Installers.
