How to remove chrome strip on hatch that says Infiniti? Unlock/lock button broke! The

The button that is located on the chrome strip on the rear hatch above the license plate the says Inifinti that works in conjunction with the intelligent key to unlock/lock the doors is broken. It seems as if someone had pressed the button in way to hard one time "maybe intentionally" and pushed it back into the hole it resides in. If you press the button in it still unlocks/locks the doors properly. However, it will not stay fitted in the place it should be. I have removed the rear interior panel on the back hatch and found 4 nuts that hold the chrome strip on to the hatch and I removed all of them but the strip still feels like it is attached somehow and will not come off. Does anyone have a shop manual that they could look this up for me or any ideas on how to gain access to this button? I believe the proper name for the strip is the "rear finisher piece." The part is only $60-$70 and I am going to order it tomorrow.

**In the pictures the button was forced out of the hole it sits in from behind. If you press it, it will drop back into the hold as there is nothing to hold it in place.**

**EDIT not allowed to post pictures yet :/

As I remembered correctly that is all you have to do to remove it just give it a tap from the back it should release there is nothing else holding it at after the 4 bolts.

this happened to me -- i've just lived with it for now. Dang friend tried to open the rear hatch and have no idea what he was thinking. He just kept jamming it until it totally got pushed in. He clearly doesn't know how an I-Key works and yes, the key is in my pocket and doesn't randomly open for anyone who presses it.

happens all the time.. everyone thinks its a magically button that will trigger our nonexistent power rear door.

Thanks everyone... Got the replacement switch for around $60. Hopefully I can pop off the chrome strip without breaking it!

Where did you get the replacement switch from? Or is it number 20 (Switch Lift Gate Opener?)

I have the same problem as the original poster (B Feelgood) but he seems to have disappeared off the forum without any resolution confirmed. My wife pressed the button and it just fell in. I removed the back panel and can see the 4 nuts and the rubber housing for the switch but cannot manipulate it at all. I will need to remove the exterior finisher (chrome strip) it seems but not sure exactly what I need to buy to fix the switch. I cant figure out what exactly is the stay rod posted by chedman13. Is that something to keep the switch in place, the switch itself and would that solve the problem of the switch that have fallen in. Someone on the other forum mentioned that one would need to buy the whole assembly. Stealership is charging $400+ to fix. If anyone has fixed this before a quick write up would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the feedback.
