Looking for supercharger kit for the fx45

Agreed.

From what I read they ONLY did the S/C swap and what was minimally necessary to make it run and left everything else stock with the other $$ spent on a fancy body kit. Now I've seen in more than a couple places that in stock trim, the VK45 is about at its limits for reliable power (I've seen original VKs at 300K+ in some older Qs-crazy!) which would explain the problems associated with the Keuylian build. Of course tuning will unlock a little more but not much. I've been toying around with the idea of a centrifugal superchargers since other than bracketing, it's a fairly straightfoward install relative to some of the other ideas floating out there. Plus it'd be easier to fit under the Y34's low hood. The problem is you're probably looking at a max of 5 psi or so before things get sketchy (Keuylian's ran at 7.5 psi and higher). That would give some decent gains, but I'm not sure it'd be really worth it for the kind of $$ it would cost to get such a thing made. That brings me to building a lower-compression which actually might be worth it if everything can be made to work properly but it'd be a rather large undertaking because with any kind of big power, the transmission becomes a problem. Getting a built one for RWD would be too hard, but that's more time, work, and $$. I've got a couple more things on my plate with this car before I dive in to an full-on build, but it's definitely something that might work.

How much power do you want and/or what would you be happy with? (considering money to be a factor =))

Honestly, I would be happy with something like a reliable 100HP over stock. That'd put me at ~440 to the crank-pretty respectable in a 3800lb car. I didn't really buy this car to race or anything like that but a little extra power never hurt. :) I know it'll be a fairly expensive undertaking, but I think it'll be worth it in the end if I can get it to work. Plus who doesn't like the sound of a blown V8?

Ya Sam at GTM wants to get his hand on my FX50 to SC it

Awesome! Are you going to take it down there?

So you currently have 340 to the crank now? What model/year VK do you have and what have you done to it to date?

340HP/333TQ are the stock numbers on the VK in the Y34 M45 (03-04) so I was really just basing if off that as rough figures. So far I've just done short ram intake (similar to the PopCharger) and exhaust, but from what I've seen on some of the Y34 guys are dynoing ~290WHP with the same mods so I'm thinking they might have been a little underrated from the factory. I did notice a considerable increase with the addition of the intake so I think if this engine could breathe better I could extract a LOT more power before even jumping into F/I. The power drop-off in the upper RPMs is the worst part, but that's what led me to wanting to get headers made and trying to work on a different intake solution. Unfortunately, the engine bay is a little weird in my car so it's definitely going to be a custom job.

Those are significant base numbers. Sounds like the engine would really benefit from some solid breather mods (like headers) not sure what your bay layout is like but if the headers I am getting fabbed up would fit I bet it would make a huge difference. Anyway for you to pull a visual off a FX45 (specifically a 2006+) to see what it looks like compared to your set up. I also have a couple other mods I am working on that may work well for you. If you can hold out until the end of October I should be all set with results/data. Feel free to PM me for more info.

Yeah, I'd definitely say that with better breathing, you could get some pretty decent numbers out of the VK. I'm going to try to get my hands on a visual from the FX, shouldn't be hard. End of October definitely works for me, I've got 2 other projects going on now and the M is a daily so I'm not in any rush. I'll shoot you a PM so we can discuss some details.

Cool - BTW - Throttle body modification specs came back today very favorable with a planned 3.0mm I.D increase and butterfly center post streamline. Fairly inexpensive and should provide a solid gain on the low to mid (you have to have at least have exhaust and CAI) headers, CAM's, headwork (or at least one of the three) will make a big difference. The TB mod will most likely require a tune......

That definitely sounds good. I need to find something to tune. I know that the ECU in my car is different from the newer M but I don't know how different it is compared to the FX or other Nissan vehicles from the time period.

Shop said that I may NOT need a tune for the TB, that all makes react differently. That would be a plus but I'll be tuning it twice soon so no major loss. I'll plug it in and see what happens......

Logan, I'm also running an '06 FX45 and am VERY interested in getting more HP out of this motor. The pop charger made a big difference, and i'm really thinking just moving more air through will be enough gain to make me happy. Can you share more on the headers and throttle body change?

Headers have been completed and have been installed on my ride. Fitment and build quality are top notch. There are two versions that the tech has set up assembly jigs for - 4-2-1 Long tubes and shorties. His best guess is that the shorties will produce up to 20 WHP, the long tubes up to 35 WHP. Your final numbers will depend on what modifications you have completed if you have been tuned of course which will be necessary in the end to maximize your gains. The TB has yet to be dialed in on my ride as I have recently had an engine issue but the FX was running fine with the previous UPREV tune so my first thoughts is that is was doing well with the modded TB.

Right now my ride is down so I can't comment quite yet on the effectiveness of the various mods I have done but I'd say you are on the right track with breather mods for the VK. The intake, the TB (wait for it), the headers, HFC's, a solid exhaust and tune would make for a nice power bump and it would sound amazing........pick your exhaust carefully =)

Any update on the research you guys been doing? have anyone tried STS and see what they could do for the VK45?

I don't think anyone has installed a sts rear mount that I know of. Without a rebuilt motor you could only push around 7-8psi to be on the semi-safe side. A custom set up with engine management will put you around at least 6k from what I've read and looked into. Maybe a 50shot is the way to go, much more affordable.

STS rear mount turbo has been tried and done on a M45. All you need is money for a tune and low boost and you are good to go.

Still, to do it right will set you back. $10-$15k easy.
