GTSPEC New 4 Points Mid Chassis Brace For FX35 (first Gen)

Lance or someone remind me again please....if I am running coils, I will seriously not be able to have this piece installed? What's the biggest issue? Speed bumps? Dips in the road? It can't be lower that the mudflaps can it? I really want this piece to tie my whole car together. :balanced:

My setup has a touch of tail happiness, which is what we all want. The mid bar only added to it, but not by any huge difference. I think it's a worthy upgrade

Word. I just don't want to increase understeer...

Tim, seems to me that it mitigated a bit of understeer. Feels a bit sharper now with turning/turn in.

Andrew, I'll get pics for you if you want. How low on coils are you? My exhaust hangs pretty low in one spot, but I think this brace is just a bit lower.

Whatever pics you have will be great Stu, thanks. I have a one finger gap, so I'm about as low as the car can physically go. My mudflaps are so low, that I cannot even drive up a ramp to do oil changes. So that's why I "think" I should be able to run the bar without any clearance issues.

I'm about a 1.5 finger gap, on stock sized rubber. No mud flaps for comparison. I'll get a shot tomorrow when I have room in the garage to step back a few feet and get the whole view.

I have less than a finger gap and I am 1/2" lower than your 285/35/22 rubber so you may be okay BUT as I said it is gonna be tight......not so much the front of the mid brace that's the issue it's the back where the brace drops down for clearance.

Well, if you are currently running it with no issues, I hope I won't either. A picture would be great for reference, thanks again.

What issues did you run into? Did you actually scrape anything or the fear of? You are the only reason why I haven't purchased this yet. I remember you trying to sell yours a while back because of clearance issues. I could have less than a finger gap too. I have very slender fingers, lol.

Once it's bolted onto the frame, whats the approximate height it takes up? Meaning, from the frame to the lowest portion of the bar. About three inches? I'll have to remeasure how much clearance I have when I get my coils back on. (I should have Andrew measure it for me, lol)

I know Lance has smaller tires, so that drops him down. Also, if I remember correctly he never actually mounted it, but was just worried it wouldn't work based on height comparison.

I'll get you that pic shortly, and I'll try to measure frame to bottom measurement.

Ok, from the frame rails where it mounts to the bottom of the back end of the brace (lowest point) it looks like 2.5", maybe a little more, but less than 3", so somewhere in that range.

Each pic is about 2 steps closer each time.

Stu is correct, my mid has never been on (fear factory of scraping it off) but I am going to give it a shot and install it while it is down. Pretty sure mine will be under 1 3/4" prohibitive when it comes to speed bumps?........You can always adjust your CO's up to hit the "sweet spot" of minimal contact. It's a balancing act - Better handling VS incremental drop 1/2" maybe......

Thanks for the pic Stu, I don't think its that bad, lol. This has convinced me that it should clear my setup. It looks like there's at least five inches of clearance from the ground to the bar. Plus, I think my mudflaps are lower than this too. Looks like another bar for me to purchase! :top:

that mid chassis looks pretty ugly under the car, looks like this huge piece of metal holding the car together..

Tell you what, that fresh paint sure gleamed next to all my battered braces.

Battered braces :eek.:

Too bad GTSpec doesn't make another chassis brace like "3/4 rear brace" or something that bolts underneath the area below both doors. Then the car would be completely GTSpec braced and good to go!

Gtspec braces makes it worthwhile to peek under the car, bland otherwise. Mine could use a re-paint, they are low and get hit by debris all the time. Scrape snow too.

Got to accidentally test out the mid chassis + rear sway the other day. It's a long sweeping right turn following an exit off the highway. Protected turn too so I'm usually carrying decent speed up to and through it. It gets me every time because I forget how it's a decreasing radius so there always comes that time where I realize I'm going a little too fast for how much I need to turn. However, this time the FX went into a slight little drift, but it wasn't the usual understeer, rather a very predictable 4 wheel drift. It hit me a bit after that the brace and sway probably made the difference compared to last time it happened. :top:

I have attached a pic to show the general path of the turn for reference.
