Clanking sound from front suspension

ahha everyone is having success except me!

Damn all of you.

I used to have the sound and vibration.. I thought it was my rotor so I just finished putting new ones on.. Some of the vibration is gone... Installed new links and a little more of the vibration gone.. I still have some vibration left. I need 2 tires so I'm thinking once I get the tires I'll do a balancing and a alignment and see if this solved the problem..

So I'm not so lucky!! Be glad your steering wheel doesn't vibrate!!! Lol

ha, I spent a year fixing that -- I can check that off my to-do-list =)

my fix was:
1) hub bearing replacement
2) outer tie rods
3) road force + 38 psi cold

I'm thinking of replacing all my wheel hub assemblies..

Now the outer tied rods.. Did you do it yourself? I might have to do this too

I might have to do this also.. Thanks bro

no problem -- just be sure to get a pad and paper and write down how many turns to get off. Then you won't have to get an alignment afterward.

Just make sure it's an OEM tie rod or else the number of turn threads might be off.

Car getting old sucks=)

Will do..

Tell me about it.. Can't wait to finished paying it.. I'll trade it in for a 08 right away!! The 09-10 haven't grow on me yet..

How many bushings does the sway bar have? 2 or 1?

Cause I saw some massive bushings ( rubber type things) on both side of the sway bar when I was installing the sway bar links.

Knocking on wood here...but I have a new link sitting on my work bench. I attempted to tackle this project on Fri night, but there is no way in hell I can get the link off. The top nut is pretty much stripped and the bottom nut isn't easily accessible with my 2.5ft breaker bar.

Awaiting delivery on my GTspec lower tie and lateral bar, then gonna have the dealer install those, the new link, and perform a alignment all in one shot.

My mechanic couldn't get it off after waiting a few hours with PB blaster and using a breaker bar on the rack. He ended up cutting the link off because he couldn't use heat due to proximity to the ABS sensor.

The rust + plastic lock nut made for one heck of a nut to come off.

As others mention, be sure they are torqued to spec or else you'll get some more clunking from the GTspec bar, not that I would know =)

Heck yeah those links were tight as hell.. I was using the regular air tool to get it off and it didn't budge.. I ask the shop assistant and he pointed me out towards a huge red air tool.. He said if that one doesn't get it loose you are screwed.. Used it and they came off easily.. God bless air tools!!!!

hi i had the same problem after installing my h&r .. looked all over the car and found that it was the stabilizer link . there are two one on the driver side and passnger side i changed both of them and the sound was gone .. it was the one on the driver side theres a ball on the link that goes bad try that , there about 38.00 ea:wink:from the dealer

Good info.............Thanks.

Mine has clanking sound on both front end rear.
Woul love to have more informations about these LINKS...
Jack her up today those Links are solid ..
IS THERE ANYWAY TO TELL THAT THEY ARE BAD ?
Thanks in advance.........

Just wanted to step in this one again with some of my experience with this.
Mine also had a clanking sound when driving over bumps etc.
Also the steering wheel was shaking when i stepped on the brake.

So i ordered some new stabilizer links, fitted them and got my front disc brakes re-machined.
Also had to sand down the brake pads to get them flat again.
But after all the work the result was perfect, no more clanking sounds and when braking it is as good as it can be!
I must say that my first impression of the stabilizer links was not so bad as there was no play when moving them around. (i was able to "turn" them a bit)
But once they came off i could feel straight away they were really bad.
Especially one, from that one the rubber seal was broken and water/salt/sand finished it off.

Mine has done 64K at the moment and i think these were the original ones from factory so i think that around 60K it's time to change them if you start to hear some noises.

Does the AWD version have these links also on the back?
I found a set of 4 on the internet but after i had look at the rear but couldn't find them.

That explains a lot.

Yes, there is a front and rear sway bar. Therefore 2 links for the front and 2 links for the rear.
