Maintainence for FX35 2006

Hi guys, I just recently bought used 2006 Fx35 with 47k miles. I will be changing engine oil, differential, andh transmission oil.

I have a couple questions:
1) For the diiferential, what gear oil should I use? I live in So. Cal. 75w-90 or 80w-90 or 75w-110.

2) What is the best OEM Transmission Fluid, is NISSAN Matic S transmission fluid, NISSAN Matic J transmission fluid or NISSAN Matic D transmission fluid. Can someone explain what's the different between S, J, and D fluid.

matic j came out first to go with first gen FX and then S came out which you can use also if you like. that's why i said use whichever you can find. both OEM product so your warranty (if you have one) is still valid.

they don't make j anymore btw.
 
differential....about 1.5 qt max. it will start dripping so you'll know.
about tranny fluid there's an ongoing debate on how you should do the fluid change so I can't give you the right answer. let me see if i can pull the relevant threads out for you.

Can I just drain and fill for the transmission rather then the other way??
 
you should let the car running for 5 minutes and then you can turn it off and completely drain the tranny fluid and put in the recommended amount of fresh oil from the top.
this is what i will be doing in the future.
 
I do drain and fill for all my cars. I read somewhere here that 3.5 quarts will drip out from the pan. I've been too lazy to do it and it looks like that's how the dealer did it based on marking on the bolt. BTW, I paid $100 for 3.5 quarts... what a rip off. I just have to get around to it one of these days.
 
Wow $100 for 3.5 quarts? That's insane. Anyways, does anyone know and websites we can buy oem stuffs for our car for little bit cheaper?? I came from a Honda and they have lots of different sites to buy oem part and etc...

i believe 3.5 sits in the oil pan, then you add some more to get to the proper level..

Hey guys,

I just wanna confirm that for the tranny fluid 2006 fx 35 should be around 3.5 to 3.7 quarts right? Drain and fill? And how do you check for the tranny oil? Engine running or not?

also right behind the engine, you will find the charging pipe,that's where you will add the tranny fliud from.

I drained out from the transmission pain and refilled from the charging pipe under the hood with 3.5 quarts. Is that correct?
 
Thanks. So for checking transmission fluid level correctly, I know for Honda the engine has to be off and Toyota has to be on. As well as Nissan and Infiniti.

For Nissan and Infiniti, do we need to keep the engine at idle to check transmission fluid at the correct level?

The dipstick for the transmission have 2 side. One side is label Hot. Are we supposed to be looking at the hot side while the engine idle? How do we know when it is full at the right level. On the dipstick there are two small cut then this "|xxxx|" So should the fluid should be level at the top where the red line??

Sorry for so many questions but thank you in advance for all the help.
 
not really, i don't think you HAVE to have the engine running just to measure the oil level. my suggestion was to add oil while the engine was running. you can shut it off.
as for the oil level, yes the oil has to somewhere on the middle of xxx line, doesn't have to be up to H.
and measure the oil.

When I let the engine idle the transmission oil seem to be at the full level but when I shut it down it was over the "H".
